About 5 months ago I decided to get back in shape. I took a hard downhill slope after returning from my last deployment. Gained 60lb in 2 years, never worked out, had no energy, no sex drive. So I was all like, time to get back to the gym (I'm no slouch when it comes to fitness).
For about a month I started "trying" to work out with the same types of routines I have always done before but this time it was different. I couldn't push, their was no drive, any time I had a decent workout I would be useless for days until I could recover. Figured my testosterone was tanked. Now I'm not sure if the weight gain caused test to drop, or test drop contributed to weight gain but it doesn't matter. Called up a Dr. and told em' the laundry basket list of symptoms.
Labs came back 6/1/15 with TOTAL TESTOSTERONE 240ng/dl (250-1100)
Free testosterone 38.5 (35-155)
After this the MD wanted me to go to his endocrinologist that entailed a 3 month wait until earliest appointment. So I did the pertinent thing and called all the MD's in my town and made an appointment with the 1 office that said they did do in house TRT. Got seen in a week and with these labs they wanted to do 300mg test cyp every 3 weeks. By this point in time I had already combed through these forums and recognized that dose as unacceptable. With my powers of persuasion, I convinced them of 300mg EOW and that since I am a nurse, I can administer myself from home. (I had no intent on keeping this schedule, but with that dose I would have an extra vial of testosterone left over every month that I could tweak my dose if needed.)
I did shots weekly for about 3 weeks at the 150mg/week IM then decided to try out the SUBQ method. First subQ shot happened on 7/8/15. Had been doing 60mg every 3 days until 8/28. Last set of labs drawn 10 days after on 9/5.
Total Testosterone 541 (250-1100)
Free Testosterone 154.8 (35-155)
These labs are trough after missing 3 doses. Only side effect I have noticed is a dull ache in my testicles. I'm guessing that is from my natural testicular function shutting down. I brought this to the docs attention and it was like speaking greek. She didn't have a clue. I would like to try a round of HCG or clomid to see if it helps but that's a fight for another day.
Before I had to start skipping doses for the "trough" level I felt great. Working out, lifting, lost 10lbs on the scale, probably gained 5 lbs of muscle, 6-8hrs of sleep and felt well rested, morning wood for the first time in as long as I can remember.
