Differentiate Types of Bodyfat - The human body stores two very distinct types of bodyfat. One type, visceral fat, is stored deep within the abdomenal cavity and around the internal organs. The other type, subcutaneous fat, is stored directly underneath the skin, between the skeletal muscle and the skin layer. Beer Bellies are predominantly visceral fat entities
Try to Pinch a Beer Belly - Subcutaneous fat, the jiggly, flubbery type of fat, is what bounces and shakes when you jump up and down. It's also the kind of fat that people talk about when they say they can pinch an inch, or when they complain about their jiggly lovehandles! People who store a preponderance of subcutaneous bodyfat will appear softer, plumper, and flabbier. But that's not what makes up a beer belly!
Know Where a Beer Belly Starts - Visceral fat, which is what makes up a traditional "beer belly," is located underneath a person's abdominal muscles, deep within the abdominal cavity surrounding the inner organs. As visceral fat storage increases, the surrounding abdominal muscle layer gets pulled tight and pushed outwards, hence the hardness of the rounded "beer belly" bulge. Since visceral fat is located deep within the abdominal cavity, it can't be felt or pinched(like subcutaneous fat can), but it can be visualized as it pushes the abdominal muscles outward and creates a rounded belly.
