Im skinny, trying to put on mass, mostly muscle with some fat too(hence the bulking up).

Is it better to eat 95% healthy with little unhealthy food I.E. twinkies, Mcdonalds, ice cream

70-75% healthy and a good amount of unhealthy but high calorie foods. With this diet I could probably achieve more calories but they wouldnt be protien. What do you think? Thanks.

If you are really scrawny, then I think taking a while to bulk without trying to eat clean is a good idea. It can help you bulk up more easily. Once you get some decent size, then you can worry about "eating healthy."

By all means eat healthy, the habits of eating crap is why so many Americans are as doughy as they are. You can gain weight while eating wholesome home cooked food, made from real ingredients, stay away from processed sugary or salty foods--learn how to cook and decent meals will be your reward.

eat clean, but if your that scrawny, dont obsess over it. Get your protein in, get your good carbs in, get your veggies in, THEN go for the ice cream, the cookies, the snickers, etc. Go to mcdonalds every now and then and get 4 or 5 cheeseburgers and gobble them down, or a couple double cheesburgers. Plenty of protein and carbs. It wont kill you.

When i was 135 in high school i had chick fila for breakfast, dominos pizza with fries and cookies for lunch, mcdonalds for an evening meal, then a big ass homemade dinner that night, with crazy amounts of junk food all throughout the day (rice crispy treats, cereal, hotdogs, chips and salsa or cheese sauce, etc). I drank case of beer or more every weekend as well and i was still ripped and didnt gain a pound. I was scrawny, but ripped lol.

I think the word "bulking" is the wrong word to use and as a bodybuilder, I cringe when I hear it. Bulk makes me think of weight gain (regardless of what type of weight youre gaining).

Be patient, eat clean foods, lift heavier and heavier low-rep weights every workout (ie push your limits), get 500+/- extra clean cals over your maintenence needs, supplement properly, and get plenty of rest and you WILL ABSOLUTELY gain muscle (not bulk and without measurable fat gain).

Sugars (and most junk food) have no nutritional value AT ALL and usually create nasty toxins and free radicals in your system and raises cortisol levels - which will definitely screw with your bodies ability to grow lean muscle tissue. Avoid them if you're serious about gaining real muscle. If you eat them regularly, get out of the gym. You're wasting your time.

I started skinny (very) and always eating clean (a lot of food but clean and good quality). Gained 31 lbs so far (in 7 months) mostly muscle.
Learn how to eat and with good training and rest you'll grow.

If I dont keep my diet clean then I will add 80-90% fat/water, not muscle. My diet has to remain clean and just be more of it, with some occasional cheats having little to no impact on me - cheats, not binges.

I have to watch carb intake even if its brown rice, so its not just clean but macro percentages I have to watch closely.

I started out skinny as well, the first year of training I ate alot of junk, i put on alotta muscle and alotta fat. I managed to drop the fat easily, but, that's my genetics coming into play. I lean down easy. if you lean down easy, then go for it. if you are somehwere in the middle when it comes to losing fat..try cheating with steak (cheaper cuts) mashed potatoes , with lots of sour cream, tacos with cheese.

You liar... Everybody always talking about being skinny in the past. Look at my avatar!!! I'm tired of hearing grown men claiming they used to be my size!!!!

What kind of food did you eat? I thought I was in the middle and just let myself go. I guess not because I gained weight on an even lower carb/completely saturated fat diet than that. For me it's not only what I eat it - it's also how much of it. I've always had enough protein but even with the perfect percent of carbs, healthy oils, and fiber, I have to stop myself from eating too many calories.

Just curious u said avoid salty foods, why? I understand that preprocessed food has a lot of salt, but what about adding it to food to enhance flavor? I have heard this alot and never understood the reasoning behind it, unless it is for blood pressure reasons.

Nobody wants to read all that shit. Get to the point

I challenge you to get fat! If you are that dam skinny its will be pretty tuff to put on and keep much weight. The fact is if you constantly go for the healthy stuff you will FAIL to grow, atleast until you've got the discipline. I'm not talking fried sh*t all day, but burgers, pastas, potatoes... should be in there DAILY!

I was 6'5 170 lbs like a crack head, now i'm 6'6 225 (still skinny) and eating was 90% of it. Gidder done!
