You bypassed the air lock in the syringe from pressing too hard, it happens.

Oil steaming is not necessarily bad, but its much too hot for what were doing here.

By 'steam', I wonder is it was really 'smoke' as in, "the oil hit its smoke point."

That's one of the things I like about the grape seed oil that I use: it has a very high smoke point compared to most other oils.

I was taught not to filter the oil when it is any hotter than 50 degrees Centigrade or it could ruin the filter. Is that a procedure other people follow?
