what do you guys think about diet soft drinks and other sugar free sweetener products (sugar free jello, popsicles, jelly, etc.) while dieting? i have read some studies where one group of subjects were given regular soft drinks routinely, and the other group was given diet soft drinks at the same frequency. the two groups gained the same amount of weight.
some say that for your brain to recognize a "sweet" flavor, it physiologically spikes insulin levels. the exact same thing that happens when you take in real sugar.
i drink 1 or 2 diet soft drinks a day when im dieting to keep cravings down, but im really starting to feel like i should avoid sugar free products.
what do you guys think?

a lot of sugar free shit has sweetners like aspartame which give me a wicked headache

that stuff is junk bro

i would look for something other than sugar fee shit to kick your cravings maybe try like some rice cakes with cinnamon, theres a lot of shit

It most definately does not spike my insulin levels. Many people are sensitive to fake sweeteners but I am not one of them. I love aspartame and sucralose and do well having them. Others don't. This is an individual thing.

hmm, insulin levels being spiked by the mind??? Interesting. Myself, I'm 8 weeks out from competition...I eat a shit load of splenda for my oats, drink lots of coke zero, and tons of crystal light for my water. I hardly drink plain water....People talk lots of shit about aspartame and splenda...but there are absolutely no studies, facts or research on humans. Only studies were done on rats with aspartame. It's safe.

I'm shredding down with no problems at all...5 weeks ago I was 218 lbs @ 10.5% BF. Today, I'm 201 @6.7% BF. Still have 8 weeks to get down to 3%. And I'll be drinking lots and lots of fake sugar!!!!!

if you're dieting, stay away from rice cakes...they are high on the glycemic index! It's like eating pure sugar. Also google foods that are high in estrogen and steer clear.
