Does it really matter if you eat a high glycemic food as long as you eat it w/protein

Just curious

For instance, would a diet with nothing but chicken breast and chocolate cake be as effective as long as you run the exact same calorid deficit as a diet of brown rice/wheat bread with chicken breast?

Those are just 2 studies that I think show that what matters the most is the caloric deficit, I am a strong advocator of IIFYM dieting, but that doesn't mean I eat pop tarts 24/7. But again even if I ate pop tarts I think it would be the same, and I believe too that it depends on your insulin sensitivity, are you insulin resistant?

I have no clue. What's a quick litmus test to tell if i am or arent

Just try going high on carbs whenever you diet, if you feel good, keep on loosing weight and maintaining muscle mass no need to go low carb :) If you struggle then go keto or low carb and see of that helps.

It's not the protein that matters in this case, it's the fiber content - which is ultimately what determines the glycemic index. I agree with reroids, your insulin sensitivity is really what determines how you respond when cutting.

I had to take a break from my ever-going cut as I was going insane chasing that last 2% body fat, and reintroduced carbs. As I'm a diabetic, I know I'm insulin resistant, which I can see by the sheer volume of water retention and gas that I'm experiencing at a far greater rate than a healthy person. When I cut again, I'll likely have to go ketogenic once more as my body simply loves holding onto that glucose.

I hope that example kind of makes sense. Basically, if you're meeting your nutritional needs, and can lose fat with simple carbs, go for it - they just tend to have more empty calories, which we tend to avoid in a deficit.

My .02c :)
