Gut Health Maintenance

tried spelling maintenance right and renaming the post but it hasn't taken effect yet. lol

Sounds like a post from grandma but make sure you guys are eating 100% of your daily fiber values. I also drink a cup of coffee a day in the AM to clean out the intestines and prevent gallstones and take a pre+probiotic supplement every so often. I also take some digestive enzymes as needed. If you just take betaine HCL it can inactivate/overpower the pancreatic enzymes so find a good mixed one if you need it.

If there is gut fermentation from dysbiosis (overgrowth of bad bacteria) that can lead to a disruption in tyrosine metabolism as well as a norepinephrine receptor blockage which will produce fatigue. The best way to stop all this is to prevent it from happening in the first place with the above advice. This is the main mechanism of CFS as the immune system is in the gut.

Also it is important that we are sleeping well so take some sublingual melatonin and gaba or something if you guys can't get to sleep at regular hours. Having had chronic fatigue this has all reversed it in addition to monitoring estrogen levels and keeping them low along with keeping shbg low.

I look at the gut health thing as a lifestyle change...I go to walmart and they have oatmeal packets with cinnamon that have 40% of your daily fiber value as well as bread that has 10% per slice and jelly that has near 20% if you use it on a pb and j sandwich. easy fiber right there...stay healthy guys. I also believe that the liquid b complex absorbs better than regular pills. Try that if you want more energy. Also testosterone raises thyroid binding globulin so adding 30mg of armor thyroid a day (non suppressive to thyroid function) can also help. Monitoring aldosterone and cortisol levels if additional symptoms of fatigue are present may also help. This is what I have done to make my testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) work, though most of you probably don't need aldosterone or cortisol.

CJ-
I believe in a clean gut as well. I take a tablespoon of Psyllium Husk fiber each morning mixed with a powdered vitamin as soon as I get up every morning. Works great for me!

I'm on my second day of doing a watermelon and black coffee cleanse.. I felt extremely bloated recently because Ive had a terrible diet for the past couple of weeks.. I've done this before and it really makes me feel better.. I might do one more day because I still have good bowel movements every few hours..
Do you guys do cleanses every so often? If so, what kind of product or food do you use?
BTW- Thanks for the info CJW.. I always have problems w/ my gut even when I am eating clean

I'm taking ProSource Detox and Cleanse products or something like that...also a tab of super enzymes with each mean to help digestion

I'm taking this enzymedica pricey digestive enzyme supplement. I think coffee in the morning helps a lot. I got carried away with betaine hcl and lets just say that stuff burns on the way out if you take too much. That's why I recommend a multi enzyme with food like the ones by enzymedica which are generic non human enzymes or a product called food enzymes by natures sunshine that has everything in it. I am trialing both. My test dose now is like 100-200mg a week. I think keeping estrogen in check with arimidex or letro is essential for immune function. too high of estrogen at least in women causes a lot of immune problems.

I know if I workout too much and have too much sex sometimes I see some bile coating the back of my tongue...like nervous system taxation can cause gallbladder spasming and whatnot. lol I also do not like to have sex within say 3 hours of a meal..

I like the idea of Psyllium Husk because it is insoluble and soaks up moisture in the intestines where bacteria and whatnot can otherwise thrive. I read a study showing type 2 diabetes (insulin resistance) is a defense mechanism where the body attempts to conserve energy in response to an infection of the gut.

Between the coffee, enzymes with food, and psyllium husk and other daily fiber being met and maybe some valerian/hops/passion flower supplement combo I got in 1 to alleviate gut spasms I don't think we can lose.

I take probiotics and digestive enzymes with every meal. I also take a tbsp of metamucil in the am and pm and I try and eat veggies whenever I can.

I've never done a cleans but I've been thinking about doing a salt cleanse.

Anyone try it?

I guess you drink a big warm cup of salt water and it supposedly runs right through you

If you think about it now lots of people have gut dysbiosis issues...and in earlier times the meat was covered in salt as a preservative and put in a cold cellar since they had no fridges. salt is highly antibacterial.

never heard of it but definitely let us know how it goes.. I like doing cleanses it makes me feel a lot better after.. But, I guess if I got more serious w/ my diet and took the supps recommended here, I probably wouldn't have to do cleanses as often
