How is it t3 shuts down the thyroid, but t4 doesn't

T4 is also suppressive. Just matters on the dose really.

If you're looking to run a T3/Clen/albuterol cycle, but are thinking T4 is the way to go - save your money and time. T3 is what you want, (it's what your body makes from T4) and the suppression is not permanent.

I've seen studies of folks that were suppressed for years, and natural function resumed shortly after they stopped taking the hormone. Shame the HPTA isn't like that. ;)

T4 will suppress the thyroid but not shut it down completely. Reason being t4 is converted to t3 but it is not the sole source of t3 production. Plus T4 conversion to T# is limited. So if you supplement with t4 over time your body would not produce t4 BUT the endogenous T3 production continues. SO your thyroid would be suppressed with extended t4 supplementation but not fully shut down.

Make sense?

Not really. My thyroid levels were reading as a little on the low side months ago and my endo put me on 50mcg a day, why wouldn't he just put me on 25-50mcg of t3 if my thyroid will ultimately be surpressed anyway

He didnt put you on T3 because you have partial thyroid function. It will be suppressed but whatever the suppression is more than being replaced with what he is giving you. He did right. Why give you t3 if you can get into appropriate thyroid levels using t4? I mean what did you thyroid panel blood work say? 50mcg is not a high dose of t4, if you can get where you need to be taking it I dont see the issue?

He gave you t4 to utilize the conversion process which serves multiple functions.
Why wouldn't you want your body to perform the natural process of t4-t3?

Depends what other drugs are you taking?
If gh id say don't take t3, but that's based on a research article I just read.

Do you think it would be a bad move to supplement t3 at 50mcg for my upcoming cut in 2 weeks

Not if you have an appointment coming up with your endo to see how that t4 is working for you. I'd personally wait to make sure that your thyroid protocol is sufficient. Health first, then you can play is how I look at things.

I was going to edit my first post, but I think Jimi more than explained what I meant. :)

i just want to add that if you are already hyperthyroidic dont use t3...

i just gave blood to find out my TSH is .1 below range... high t3 can cause issues!!

I've been on this protocol since July and after follow test a few weeks later he said I'm fine and won't schedule any follow up test till January
