how long did you train before your first match

Flying armbar, too risking of a move in my opinion but when you see one done it is something great. My previous Instructor showed me footage of one of the girls at his gym who trains MMA and she did this on one of the guys. Was fantastic to look at however the guy she was training with suffered some serious injury to his arm that took him out of the game for quite some time. She was one tough chick and seen her fight in KOTC.

Actually thats probably one of the toughest to hit.. Its all in your swinging your hips at the right time and tucking your knees back. my last win was the most impressive, it showed my BJJ is finally clicking, it was an Armbar from from butterfly guard. I pull butterfly guard, threw the sweep and it failed so I faked the sweep next and threw my hips for the arm bar.
The other two arm bars were from mount. Both I was gnp'ing, started throwing the elbows and they gave it right up.
I'm probably 2-3 years away from hitting a flying armbar..LOL ;)

My mobility off my back isn't there yet. Add to the fact that my legs are short I need real good technique to hit it off my back.

I have been doing well with triangles though. I hit them a lot in spider guard.

Wresling seems to be geared to guys like me - short and stocky
BJJ seems to be best suited for long lanky guys.

BUT, have you ever seen Mike Fowler? He's about 5'5", stocky, not exceptionally flexible and he's SICK!

Being short and stocky isn't the best build, but you can make it work. Like everything, I just need to find my own style - Half Guard and Spider Guard have worked the best for me right now.

Exactly bro.. I use to piss and moan to about how I was too short and stocky for BJJ or how my legs were too short but after a while you find your nitch. You get real good at the things that fit your build... and in MMA its even better. Guys can't contain us because were short, compact and explosive. Keep working at it, you find a way to adapt.

It's just a different gameplan for stockier guys. Less triangles and armbars from the bottom and more position control, chokes, and armbars from the top. Look at rousimar palhares.

it may be harder to catch someone if you're stocky, but i feel like you have the advantage in that its also harder to catch you in an armbar than someone who is a bit lankier.
