How long should I lift naturally before experimenting?

I've been lifting on and off for years, I'm 32 years old. How do you know you've reached your full genetic potential?

I don't think anyone reaches thier full genetic potential. I was training for 6 years naturally before I started. I though I needed to do it if I wanted to keep competeing at a higher level. I don't think I was at my full genetic potential at 22 but I was 200lbs and lean at that point. It seemed like the right decision for me. Only you will know if the risk is worth the outcome.

Are you saying that in relation to this thread......or as a more general statement ? Say someone has only started working out 6 months ago, you say it's OK for them to start ?

I would say it is contingent upon your goals. If you are or would be just a casual user.. and for the most part are a trained athlete.. I would imagine any time would be a good time for you. (especially at the age of 32)

I have flip flopped with the idea for years now and have yet to do a cycle. But a large part of this had to do with the fact that I am so big naturally that I rarely feel like I am the smallest guy anywhere, even in comparison to the juicers. (And I have yet to train consistently for a full year) I have also seen some very large natural Bodybuilders and powerlifters who have at times inspired me to see what I can achieve naturally. However, I feel pretty confident that by the time I am 32 I will have done at least 1 cycle.. just so I know what it was like to be on a cycle.

I'd say as long or as little as you want to, it has to do more with how you've progressed than how long you've been training. (I see guys at the gym that have probably trained for 5+ years, and they still don't know shit.)

I'd tell you two things though:

1. If you just started lifting you can gain a surprising amount of mass and strength being 100% natural, and just using stuff like creatine.

2. If you havent lifted long enough to actually know what the hell you're doing (how to properly train, how to properly eat, how to listen to your body and pay attention to what it's telling you) then you're just wasting your money on a cycle. You can take the biggest dosages and the most expensive steroids you want, and if your training and diet are shit you're not going to get anything out of it except an empty wallet.
