Humalin vs Humalog: An Intelligent Debate

The Almighty

Banned. Put the Board in jeopardy.
While this is not true for all boards (obviously) I believe that Steroidology is capable of having a debate that doesnt resort to flaming or childish name calling.

With that in mind, lets take this topic and have at it.

Majority of slin users will say that Humalog is probably the best choice when it comes to slin...reason being is that it is in and out of the body quite fast, and therefor there is less of a chance of gaining fat.

On the other hand, some will say that Humalin-r or even a mixture of log/lin is the better choice.

Because of the wonders of the internet, both of these are obtainable...so I would like to hear different opinions on the subject.

By the way, lets talk as if the person in question using slin was NOT using any other compounds, including gh.

This will eliminate the "well, with gh humalin is better" remarks.

I have used both an I personally like humulin-R better. for one, humalog's effects seem to stop working for me around week 5. were as, humulin works right up until the time i stop using it. one other reason i like it better is because it last in your system a little longer and you can get in one more clean meal while still in the "window of oppertunity".

But with Humulin R, you'll have to make sure you eat clean meals for a longer time while active. With log it will be in and out of your system faster. I think when I try slin, I will go for Humalog first, then probably try Humulin later on when I get used to using slin.

That is the hidden meaning behind this thread. ;)

Seriously, this should make for a great thread once we get a good amount of intelligent replies.

problly a good idea. its good for me since all my meals are clean as prep starts.

great question.....I'll be using slin this summer and have yet to decide which one to use.....I'm thinking of going with Humilin due to the fact it gives me some extra time between my shake/ injection and next meal.....with Humolg you need to eat much soooner after the injection....I usaully get out of the gym at 7 pm (which is when I drink my shake) so I can eat my last meal at around 830-9 with Humilin....lets hear some other opinions.....

Of course, depending on what time you go to sleep, you may want to use log, considering it is not very safe to go to sleep with a good amount of excess slin still floating around in your system.

good point.....I go to sleep around 930-10 so the 830-9 meal is my last.....my buddy uses humilin with basically the same schedule as me and has never had a problem...the key (obviously) is to consume enough slow digesting carbs....but you're right, log may be a better choice.....

gilly, I would go with log intil you get used to slin. I don't think you would want to go hypo in the middle of the night on humulin. Seems a little bit risky for someone trying slin for their first time.

Here are a few of my opinions, roadhouse and others will likely debunk me :)

I prefer Hum-R for these reasons
1) I prefer the longer lasting effects of Hum-r (I may try Hum-n) soon*
2) Easier to handle the peaks, especially for newbies.
3) Cheaper
4) OTC
*You can eat someone normal, just have to hit your calories right on with slin. Eating fat while slin is active DOES NOT make you fat, eating to many calories makes you fat.

Advantages of Humalog
1) Quicker to "hit"**
2) Leaves the body quicker so you can eat less picky calorie wise that day.
3) Goes well with the natural GH release after a work out because of the duration of GH peak.
**You can inject hum-r IM and get a faster peak and onset.

eating fat while slin is active will push fat into fat cells, thus, makes you fat.

Ok, heres my view why humalog is better.

Why do we take dextrose and protein post workout? For an insulin spike. Whats the golden oppurtunity time? 15-30 after a workout at the latest, preferably as soon as possible. This is the best time for the body to replenish glycogen, stop catabolism, etc. Humulin, peaks in about an hour. Humalog, in 15 minutes. Humulin is active for around 4-6 hours, whereas humalog is active for 2. Both over shoot the window that we need, but humalog is closer. In that extra 2-4 hours that humulin is active, the insulin blocks fat the you would normally use from being released in the bloodstream. So your not burning fat you normally would, while using humulin.

Humalog's peak is more predictable, at least in my experience. If i go without carbs, i get hypo in 15-25 minutes. Humulin, anywhere from 30 minutes-1hour. So humalog is in a 10 minute window, humulin is in a 30 minute window, for me at least.

Advantages of humulin is that it is more anabolic, just like when you overeat on cals, muscle gain is easier, but fat gain comes along with the higher percentage of muscle gain. Humalog is nto quite as anabolic, yet keeps me leaner. If you like to get bloated up while bulking, then humulin shoudl work fine. If your body dysmorphic like me (not really) then every extra lb of fat wreaks mental havoc on you.

The bouncer, Humalog is OTC in canada.

Also slin doesn't "push fat" into cells.

Insulin and Lipid Metabolism
The metabolic pathways for utilization of fats and carbohydrates are deeply and intricately intertwined. Considering insulin's profound effects on carbohydrate metabolism, it stands to reason that insulin also has important effects on lipid metabolism. Notable effects of insulin on lipid metabolism include the following:
* Insulin promotes synthesis of fatty acids in the liver. As discussed above, insulin is stimulatory to synthesis of glycogen in the liver. However, as glycogen accumulates to high levels (roughly 5% of liver mass), further synthesis is strongly suppressed.
When the liver is saturated with glycogen, any additional glucose taken up by hepatocytes is shunted into pathways leading to synthesis of fatty acids, which are exported from the liver as lipoproteins. The lipoproteins are ripped apart in the circulation, providing free fatty acids for use in other tissues, including adipocytes, which use them to synthesize triglyceride.
* Insulin inhibits breakdown of fat in adipose tissue by inhibiting the intracellular lipase that hydrolyzes triglycerides to release fatty acids.
Insulin facilitates entry of glucose into adipocytes, and within those cells, glucose can be used to synthesize glycerol. This glycerol, along with the fatty acids delivered from the liver, are used to synthesize triglyceride within the adipocyte. By these mechanisms, insulin is involved in further accumulation of triglyceride in fat cells.

Thus when the liver is full it begins storing fat. BUt before it does that the liver must be full and the muscles must be saturated. So if you measure your calorie intake properly, so as to not exceed your body's need at the moment fat will not make you fatter.

Eating fat is not a good choice while taking slin for two reasons.
1) It doesn't redily convert to glucose, so it isn't going to do anything about becoming hypo or help repair muscles.
2) Because of this fat is essentially an empty calorie if we want to get the most out of slin while it active.

Eating a gram of fat while slin is active does NOT mean you gain a gram of fat!! If that was the case every time you ate a fat normally it would turn directly to fat (because all non type1 diabetics have insulin naturally).

Even if it some how magically turned into fat, do the math for the "danger of getting fat"

It takes roughly 3500 calories to gain a pound of fat. That is 388.888888 grams of fat (using one gram of fat=9 calories) So that means if you use slin for 10 weeks, 4 times a week and it is active for 4 hours that gives us 160 hours during which to eat clean. Then lets say the first post work out meal is a protein/carb shake no fat then an normal meal in an hour with 10 grams of fat. Then another meal with 10 grams of fat. During that 10 week cycle we will have 800 grams of fat while the insulin is magically forcing fat into fat cells (((10+10)*4)*10) Which means 2.07 lb of fat gain (800 gr/388 gr) in 10 weeks. I gaurantee you if you train hard you will easily put on 20-40 lb of muscle in that time also. Not a bad trade off. Even that 2.07 lb is if you use the "slin automagically stores fat" approach, which I feel I have shown is false.
