Just started TRT, need advice please.

Hello everyone,

My testosterone was at 246 when checked a few weeks ago. I talked to the doctor and (did a bunch of research) tried to get him to give me 150 mg shots every week. He would not budge no matter what and ended up making me do 200mg every 2 weeks.

I had the first shot done today by them, and I do the rest of the shots myself from here on out. I want your opinion on what I should honestly do.

I know that I am probably going to feel like crap after the first week until I get my next shot. But it is actually in my hands on when and how much to take.

Should I do the 200mg every two weeks, or possibly go 100mg weekly? Or see how I feel first? Thanks for the advice.

The consensus seems to be two shots a week. If I was you, starting out, I would do 50mg, twice a week. You can then get labs and see where it puts you.

I am on a 200mg every two week script and can tell you that it is much better to do twice a week at 50mg per pin. I do a Monday night Friday morning split and that works great. Keeps the the levels more even and don't see the high's and lows.

I agree, do 50mg twice a week and after six weeks or so have bloods done and see what your levels look like. But more importantly is how you feel, after six weeks you should have an idea of how you feel on 10mg a week. If you feel you need to increase start small, maybe move up to 150mg a week and try that for a while and then run bloods.

FYI: Be smart and start donating blood as soon as possible, best to get started early so that you do not run into any problems down the road, high hematocrit not something you want to play with. You should also keep an eye out for E2 related sides, you may never feel any sides but always keep an eye on your E2.

Ok, twice a week at 50mg it is then. I did my first shot this morning at 200mg. Should I wait two weeks to start the 50mg or should I start using it next week? Also do they put the EXACT amount in there or is there more/less in the vile?

Personally I would wait two weeks before starting the self injections, I just started self injecting so I can't tell you if the vile is 100% exact or a little extra. At your dose the vile should last you a couple of months.

How many mL in your VIAL?

If you don't wait two weeks for your next 50mg shot you will use up your vial of test before you are supposed to. You would probably have problems refilling the prescription early. They frown upon that.

You should get your syringes/needles from the pharmacy that fills your test prescription. A box of 100 will cost about $15. Get 25g for injecting and 20g for drawing the test out if the vial. Switch to the smaller gauge needle for the injection.

2000mg/10mL

Technically, you are not supposed to use a multi-use vial more than 28 days after the seal has been broken. To my continued astonishment, many physicians and pharmacists either don't know this or choose to ignore it.

Because of this, my clinic provides me with 4mL vials so that I use a fresh one each month. They source the meds from a compounding pharmacy which can supply custom amounts. I recently read that IMT has started doing the same.

You would be within your rights as a patient to request a fresh 10mL vial every 4 weeks, with the understanding that you will discard the unused portion (and pay more if you are paying for the meds out-of-pocket).

Of course, this can be a double edged sword. It might not be worth challenging an already reluctant or distrustful physician on this point. They just might respond by refusing to allow you to self-inject.

Your call, but I thought you should know.

Thanks for all the info I will keep it in mind. I don't think the "Doctor" honestly cares about his patients. He is in just to make money, he didn't even schedule a follow up to test levels. Shouldn't the levels be tested after a few weeks? To see where I stand and if I need to go up or not?

Also, based on your experience how long does it usually take to start feeling better once you start TRT?

I use a 29 gauge 1/2 inch insulin syringe injecting inner thigh and it works well and is essentially painless. I though I was injecting sub-q, now realize I am actually injecting IM. I have bought in drugstores (signature required) and online.

I started by using the same syringe to withdraw the test and to inject. Now I backload the syringe and I can't even feel it enter.

6 weeks later would be a good time for followup blood work. Two weeks is too soon.

As for feeling the effects, it will probably be 3-8 weeks. Everyone is a little different.
