Newby question...

I've looked a little on this board and there is probably a section that could answer this for me. So feel free to direct me to another thread if it would answer my question. Here it is:

I'm 33, 6'3" 170. Never been able to put on substantial weight. I've worked out, tried differing supplements, taken in TONS of calories and protein for extended periods of time. I would put on 10-12 pounds, but would lose it when my workout schedule slowed, or when I got sick of daily drinking 3000-5000 calories in shakes. What would you recommend I try next next? I've heard HGH works well. Anything else? What do you think the monthly cost would be (the weight gainers were costing me around a $100 month, and more money on other supplements). I don't mind spending some money, but would like to know what is best and if it is worth it to me. I'd like to put on 25-30 pounds in the next 6 months to a year or so. I've got a gym, and have a light workout routine already going.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

It sounds like you have an ectomorphic body type. The classical lean hard gainer. The good news is you can eat anything you want and still be lean. The bad news is gaining muscle and keeping it will require heavy lifting: squats, dead lifts, bench, shoulder presses. Compound movements and lots of protein and calories. You should be able to eat steak and potatoes etc, and get 4000 cal per day and not worry about choking down so many shake. HGH is really expensive. You could also could look into prohormones/ epistane/ creatine etc. They should be good for 10 pounds or more of lean muscle. Good luck

Mofo is right about the ectomorph body type.
I would recommend you stop drinking gainer shakes and concentrate on getting all the calories from foods. Food calories are always better than gainer shakes.

Yup, that is my body. I've used Creatine and other similar supplements before (when I put on the 12-15 pounds), but it is REALLY hard for me to maintain it. My schedule REALLY jumps around and some months (usually summer) I struggle to get more than a 1-2 good workouts a week in a month. It also KILLS my eating. That why I drink the shakes so much.

I'm of the age where I would like to see what I would look like in the 200-215 pound range. I want something that isn't going to require me to do heavy lifting 3-4 times a week, while consuming 4000-5000 daily calories (or more). I'd like to do heavy lifting 2 days, maybe 3 days a week max, and still do a little cardio and stay flexible. I'm not sure that is possible with my body type, so maybe I'm just dreaming.

Thanks for the comment.

so what are you suggesting. I'd say you have to train at least 5-6 times a week and drink 3-4 100% Whey shakes and consume 6 meals a day:

Meal 1: Protein shake and 3eggs and some Creatine and L-Glutamine and all your daily vitamins.
Meal 2: 2 chicken breasts.
Meal 3: Protein shake and a slice of bread with peanut butter.
Meal 4: Protein shake and Creatine.
Meal 5: Chiken/Meat or fish with some brown rice and some L-Glutamine.
Meal 6: A quick protein shake befor bed and another L-Glutamine.

Hope that helps

Lift Heavy and Eat!!

Thanks everyone for the advice, unfortunately I think I'm just stuck with this body type!! I'm WAY too active to put in enough time to lift heavy enough and eat enough to make a big difference.

Right now I'm doing light lifting and p-90x. Even if I dedicated my p-90x time to heavy lifting, I'm not sure I can maintain the diet that would build the mass I desire.

Thanks again. From reading through all the posts here, it has been QUITE enlightening!! I'll probably spend a lot of time on here from now on!

the thing bout gh u have 2 stay on it 4 atleast 6mo 2 c any gaines. guys think 1 kit is goin 2 make them 270lbs n 4% body fat. if some1 hasnt takn anything not a good idea 2 start w the best n most expensive. make sure the gh is real i usually get the blue caps. ive heard some guys will try 2 sell hcg as gh. it looks the same. just startn out u goin 2 pay very high prices for stuff. its the name of the game.

I am just interested in putting on about 20-30 lbs, but I definitely don't want to do something that could seriously harm me. I often hear how HGH is the miracle drug, so I was interested in what you all had to say about it. It sounds like it won't help me, and is REALLY expensive so I probably should stay away. Even if I decided to try it, it sounds like there are a lot of fakes out there, so it would probably do me good to stay away for now, until I know what and where to get it.

Someone sent me a PM yesterday about trying something else, so I'll have to look into that!

Thanks again for your help. It is GREATLY appreciated!
