Milk sugar is lactose which needs to be broken down by your body into glucose. The refined sugar in candy is almost immediately broken down to glucose, giving a blood sugar spike. They're both carbohydrates, where lactose is a diglyceride and refined sugar is a monosaccharide. If you're sensitive to sugars, try sticking with polysaccharides that are found in fibrous sources like red potatoes or brown rice. They take longer to digest and give you a more stable steady flow of energy versus the simple sugars almost immediately converting to energy that can be wasted if not utilized immediately.
