please advise with TRT and Thyroid issue

I been working with a nutritionist since aug 2014 and went from about 153lbs to 170lbs. However back in December I plateaued (diet was only now causing fat gains and its always my belly/love handles) and he recommended doing blood work. The blood showed TSH levels of 5.47 and Testosterone levels of 378. So he suggested i would c a urologist, which was today.
The urologist took his own blood samples (5 vials mind u, which i don't get the results for a few more days) and prescribed synthroid (for my thyroid), also once a week shot of testosterone cypionate and HCG once a week as well. I'm totally new to all this and kinda just went along with it. So while i was there they taught me how to inject myself with the 200mg of testosterone cypionate which i did. However the HCG and synthroid i wont get until tomorrow when pharmacies open up. At this point i'm kinda freaking out because when i got home i started researching all these things and so on and i'm realizing now all the crap that goes with it. So my questions are: Should i have even been given TRT since i have high TSH levels (thyroid problems). Also i dont wanna b on TRT for the rest of my life what options do i have and what happens when i get off. Why wasnt i given or prescribed any AI (to avoid estrogen) should i ask for them? My buddy uses (Grhp2/6/sermorelin only) and saw great results, could i use that instead since it seems less of a headache. And lastly since i injected the 200mg of testosterone cypionate today should i even bother getting all the prescription tomorrow since i'm having second doubts about TRT, but then how is that one dose from today gonna effect me now? is it gonna cause shrinkage or infertility. Should i do the one shot of HCG to compensate for today's 200mg? Now obviously i would probably get the synthroid since i dont c too much harm in that and my thyroid TSH is high.
sorry for all the questions guys, but i'm kinda freaking out right now.
Thanks for ur answers

378 is kind of low, but not profoundly hypogonadal. What was the lab range? How old are you?

Seems like the uro jumped the gun a little... there's also something to be said for only making one change at a time (the synthroid).

The one dose should not have any permanent effects if you should decide not to continue. Using HCG isn't necessary and could be counterproductive if you are planning not to start TRT at this time.

You should share your concerns with your doctor... await the new lab results and start on the synthroid and see where that puts you.

Good urologist. ...
guy took care of you homey. Both Test and thyroid.
be thankful. ..
you would be taken a back by the stories of many of us at the level of shitty care most of us have had before getting treatment for low T.

We dont know the rest of your lab results but the previous poster is right. Should be 1 change at a time. Hey maybe helping the thyroid would have taken you to 500 ng/dl???
Hard to say. TRT is for life.

Hormones are kind of funny this way. TRT may help bring your thyroid back into line, and losing weight/treating hypothyroidism may restore testosterone.

I would definitely bring up estradiol with the doctor, as it is what truly separates a good doctor from an EXCELLENT one.

My .02c :)

i emailed the doctor today and he said thats fine if i only wanna do synthroid for now, and then we do blood test again in 2 months. he also said that the one dose of 200 TC they injected me with yesterday shouldn't do any harm at all and i shouldn't worry, is that true? i am 31 years old, hence the reason i thought i was too young for TRT

Yes, it's very likely that any suppression caused by the one shot will cease in a couple weeks, and you will go back to where you were. Just be sure to ask for a FULL thyroid panel when you head back in.

I think Megatron28's sticky covers this, but if not; you'll want TSH, T3, T4, free T3 and T4 as well as reverse T3/4 to be sure treatment is effective.

As most thyroid issues go hand in hand with adrenal problems, probably not a bad idea to get them checked out as well. :)

alright guys, after further research and talking to my urologist again i will go ahead and give this method a try. So i will take the synthroid plus the test cypionate at 200mg once a week and the HCG once a week as well. He actually even told me that he also prescribed me grhp2, grhp6 and sermorelin as well should i have the desire to add those in. what do u guys think about adding the peptides in as well and is the HCG really usefull i hear it can desensitize receptors. he wants me on this program for at least 2 months until my next blood test. he said the peptides are optional tho

Either you're paying a great deal of money, or you hit the jackpot for doctors! Just the test and synthroid are going to make a tremendous difference alone; I know I'd hit up that peptide awesomeness myself.

I'd still argue for keeping it simple and adding substances one at a time. If you're low T now, the 200mg/week of T is going be like dropping a bomb on your body. Establish a new plateau, then consider the peptides.

i'm actually not! He's a urologist thats well known here in houston tx. the insurance is covering my testosterone cypionate and synthroid, and i paid $75 for the HCG at a compound pharmacy. The peptides r also not covered and run $180 a month at the compound pharmacy. But i think i will hold off on the peptides for now, cause i cant afford it

k mprtz, here's what i did today!
i got the testosterone cypoionate 200mg once a week, i got HCG at 1500 IU once a week and i will take synthroid an oral tablet daily. I will hold off on the peptides for now since they r optional. I'm going back for blood work in 2 months.
few questions tho. they administered my first dose of 200mg testosterone at the office on Tuesday but i didn't get my HCG until today so 2 days later. should i just wait until Tuesday again when my next test shot is due and then start the HCG or should i start the HCG today to make up for Tuesday and then again hit next Tuesday? the pharmacist said it wouldn't b big deal to wait till next Tuesday. And also do u guys recommend spacing them out or can i hit them the same day. The doctor said same is fine, the pharmacist recommended 1 day apart. and last question is should i harass my doctor for any AI (aromatase inhibitor)?
i'm new to this stuff thats why i'm asking, sorry

Yeah, you could try dropping the test and bring the TSH closer to 1 and see how it affects your androgen levels. Thyroid controls the steroid hormone chain. Without enough thyroid hormone, cholesterol pools in the blood and doesn't get converted into pregnelone/test/e2/DHT/etc. This is why you see high cholesterol in hypothyroidism and low cholesterol in hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism is known to cause hyperandrogenimia, aka higher than average testosterone levels. It will also cause elevated SHBG and estradiol and decrease free testosterone. The thyroid is important in the HPTA. Your other choice is to stay on hormone replacement. Taking Hcg will increase the chances of maintaining fertility and helping recovery since your leydig cells will not atrophy.

I have some thoughts on your thyroid diagnosis since I've seen some good naturopath MDs in Houston myself. However, I'm pecking away on this damn iPad for time being so maybe just look at Acu-cell.com, specifically the Iodine and Selenium pages. Manganese is an important mineral as well. It can read pretty dense.. Don't go down any rabbit holes with it.
