After injecting my triceps two days ago with 1/2 cc USGEAR labs enanthate/cyp blend my right arm is extremely swolen. There seems to be ALOT of inflamation. Last night it started getting warm and very painfull so I went to the ER and got a shot of rocephern (sp?) and a script for some oral antibiotics. I dont think it will turn into an abcess but something is wrong. I feel like I have the flu.....is this normal with a possible infection? If so how long does it last? Is it possible that I could have gone to deep with the needle and hit a nerve or something? Thanks for the help guys!

2 days is a little soon for an abcess to develop though the heat radiation is not a good sign.

The words of a good friend:

"i am being treated for a abcess and bruv you fucking know if you have one, it's like a creature trying to rip out of your muscle and tear through your flesh, the pressure alone causes pain but then you have all the swelling, the redness, the fever, your entire body feels like you have a serious bout of EBOLA!"

A little more info if you're interested:

Firstly you need to distinguish between a septic and sterile abscess.

If its septic then antibiotics are useful in the early stages.

Different antibiotics are active against different bacteria.
Different abscesses (depending where located) need different antibiotics.

Commonest causes of skin abscesses are Streptococcus and Staphylococcus aureus.

In hospital when I was working in Surgery we would usually use a combination of Flucoxacillin and Penicillin.

Augmentin alone is also effective. Note: augmentin is Co-amoxiclav (Amoxicillin and clauvinic acid), which makes it different to just amoxicillin.
Dose 250mg three times a day (up to 500mg three times a day if serious).

Cephradine can also be used but there are newer and better cephalosporins.

However, antibiotics are useless in the treatment of a well-established abscess because they can’t reach the contents, so if you have an established abscess you will need treatment.

An abscess is a localized collection of pus in any part of the body, usually caused by an infection. Abscesses occur when an area of tissue becomes infected and the body is able to "wall off" the infection to keep it from spreading. During this process "pus" forms, which is an accumulation of fluid, living and dead white blood cells, dead tissue, and bacteria or other foreign invaders or materials.

The majority of abscesses are septic (ie caused by an infection) but sterile abscesses can also occur which are not caused by germs but by non-living irritants such as drugs. If an injected drug, especially oil based ones such as many anabolic steroids are fully not absorbed, it stays where it was injected and may cause enough irritation to generate a sterile abscess. Sterile abscesses are quite likely to turn into hard, solid lumps as they scar, rather than remaining pockets of pus.

(Superficial abscesses are readily visible and are red, swollen, painful and warm. Abscesses in other areas of the body may not be obvious and may produce only generalized symptoms such as fever and discomfort. A sterile abscess may cause only a painful lump deep in the buttock where a shot was given.

If the abscess is small (less than 1 cm or less than a half-inch across), applying warm compresses to the area for about 30 minutes 4 times daily can help.Additionally, localized warm/hot soaks three to five times daily frequently brings an abscess to heal.

A culture or examination of any drainage from the lesion may help identify what organism is causing it. Most will continue to get worse without care. The infection can spread to the tissues under the skin and even into the bloodstream, resulting in septicaemia which can be very serious. Unlike other infections, antibiotics alone will not cure a mature abscess. In general an abscess must open and drain in order for it to improve. Sometimes draining occurs on its own, but generally it must be cut open by a doctor in a procedure called incision and drainage.

Once the sore has drained, the doctor will insert some packing into the remaining cavity to minimize any bleeding and keep it open for a day or two.

Could a possible infection cause me to feel flu like symptoms? Also, I injected into my triceps but both my tricep and bicep are swolen all around. This really sucks!

So its pretty safe to say this will turn into an abcess and not just an infection? Seems early to abcess already. This has really got me down because just as soon as I started to get close to my goals this happens :( How long do you guys think this will keep me out?

It's good that you got antibiotic treatment early. This is a good preventative measure in the early stages. Did they tell you to go back if it got substancially worse?

The doc suggested I get an mri done. I really cant imagine an abcess feeling much worse than this. Is it possible for an infection to form and not turn into an abcess? How long do you guys think I will expirence the flu like symptoms?

Man I cant even explain in words how down this has got me. I just moved to a new town, dont know ANY one even remotely close. This is really making me sink into a deep depression. I am sure most of you guys know where I am coming from.

bump guys I feel like I am about to die!!!!!

Go to the fuckin clinic man. Tell them that you shot some B12 in your arm.

The reason your Doc told you to get an MRI is because you didnt tell him that you injected anything in there. If you did, he definitely wouldnt have told you to get an MRI.

If you want medical help then you are going to have to be as truthful with the Docs as possible. Telling them you shot some B12 is the best excuse you are going to be able to tell them. They may not believe you but it will be next to impossible for them to prove that you didnt. What you need is some anti-biotics ASAP. If you dont, you'll end up in the hospital like I did 7 years ago.

Biggie....I did tell him the truth. Every bit of it. He gave me a shot of Rocephran(Sp?) and a script for Leviquin @500mg per day for 7 days. Why he wanted me to get an mri, I dont know. He was a real jackass and did not answer any of my questions. That is why I am asking you guys how long I will feel like 'death'. I cant remember ever feeling this bad from any flu....

Ok, you failed to mention that the Doc gave you a script. You've got to put some trust in the Doctor then. In the meantime, just make sure you take the medicine and keep an eye on it. Your body feels terrible because ever since you took that injection, your body has been working overtime to fight off the infection. You could also feel like shit due to the drugs that the Doc prescribed to you. So there are many factors as to why you feel like 'death'. But like I said, take your meds, keep an eye on it and obviously if the area starts to get worse, go back to the Doc.
