Tman's Workout journal

i hear ya...i bought a house and got a dog....only time i spend on the internet is at work.

yea seems like every day there's something to do until 8pm or so. Most of the time other than work is spent with the kids and/or family, so i figure the time spent now, will pay off big in the future.

Still Here

Well I started this journal years ago. I am 42 now and well, still at it after neck surgery (c6 fused to c7) and slap tear/acl surgery on the right shoulder. after the surgery i was able to get strong again, but I don't lift quite as heavy. They told me if I blow it out again i am looking at replacement surgery. Currently:

5'5 175
Bench 325x4
Squat 455x3
DEAD 510x5

I run 25-30 miles a week.

Yes i use chalk

thats the way to go. do you usually use belt or no?

I never used to til someone said i should, prior to that never hurt my back from deads. couple weeks ago belt slipped doing a doubly of 515 and been hurt ever since.

wasnt sure if youve noticed a weaker lower back using belt opposed to not.

any thoughts?

i always though it was a crutch, then i started using it to be safe...no i truly feel like it was a crutch

I do not believe in using weight belts. I have never hurt my back doing deads. Hammys, yes but never my back.

i need to stretch more, hip flexors/lower back/ hammys are all real tight, im sure its not helping.

probably average. should work on it more but my wife makes me do some yoga with her so i do get in some work on that.

that's what i was getting at, gym i just joined does free yoga, probably going to give it a try on off days guess it couldnt hurt.

sorry for 21 questions lol, when you hurt your back doing hammys did you get away from doing heavier doubles/triples etc. and focus on higher reps lighter weight? or just lower the weight?

want nothing more than to jump back into heavy deads but fighting myself to stay away for now

i have pulled my hammys doing sldl and deads. i had to take time off to let them heal. when i was able i would do light sets but it can be tough when the hammys are screaming at you. but yes def take some weight off and get better

tman how long have you been training in the 3 rep range?

oh man. i'm not sure. off and on for years. used to be a guy here @ ology that had the user name of pullinbig. he got me started with the concept. a couple of years ago i blew my shoulder out when i slipped and fell
at home. had to have rotator cuff/slap tear surgery. since then i've been a little better about mixing in spells when i'll do less weight @ higher reps so i'm not constantly putting as much strain on my body. i do like to lift heavy though. would be nice to be 30 again lol.
