UFC absorbing WEC starting Jan 1 2010

Shit that I say -------->
So the UFC will absorb WEC(which it already owns) and just have the one promotion with all the weight class except flyweight (under 125) and Super Heavy weight (over 265). I would like to see them some women, they put on a good show in Strike Force. Gina Carano and Cyborg can sell some tickets.

Dana is on record saying that it wont happen in the forseeable future as the talent pool is just not deep enough. I happen to agree, there are plenty of women in Japan as evidence by JEWEL, SHOOTO, DEEP, Smackgirl and other promotions but they all either wilt or are held sporadically. The pool is rather shallow in the US when it comes to female mma (it's much better with regards to either straight grappling or striking). Carano was a bit of an anamoly, without her and/or more like her I don't think women's mma will ever rise to the level needed to be accepted in the UFC.

The merger between the UFC and WEC has been a long time coming and I see only good coming from it. Smaller fighters that are extremely talented and put on incredible fights will finally get mainstream exposure. I foresee Aldo, Torres and Faber being synonymous with GSP, Valazquez and Silva.

you are right, i'm just saying I would like to see the women. The womens pool would grow though if it had more exposure here

Thanks man, I was inspired by the posters on this board as lots of people have great names and av's. I'm also a Shepard Fairey fan and even bigger Transformer nerd so you are sitting pretty yourself. lol

I agree but it's going to be tough. First there is the social stigma of women and violence that many people still find off putting, I personally hold a theory (that I further developed in a paper for a women's studies class) that because of Gina Carano's obvious good looks and apparent femininity she has found a way to circumvent the social unease held by many of violence surronding women. Because she's hot (and there are other attractive female mma fighters: Toughill, Tate, Vera's wife, Hisea, etc.) in the viewer's mind even though she is involved in violence her looks block the disgust that some feel.

A analogy can be made to an AAS cycle. The end desire of the cycle/fight is strength/violence. Think of women then fighting as a variable that elevates your estrogen levels too high thus causing gyno/social unease. If one or more of the fighters is "pretty" it acts like a SERM blocking receptors/fans from feeling those respective effects. It may be a crap analogy but on what other board could I make it?

For their to be an upswell in female mma it would have to start in the high school level with mma programs being taught, which as a current sub, future teacher and eventual principal I am currently trying to push forward as viable. Hopefully we could see the same gains that have come from female basketball, wrestling and lifting which were all considered strictly male at one point.

Or we could initiate some sort of breeding program with Gina which I would selflessly volunteer for...
