The battle has long been waged, and will certainly continue in spite of this study. Are humans designed/evolved to eat everything and at risk of malnutrition as vegetarians? Or is vegetarianism the healthy and ethical choice? The most impressive data arises from a study of 1904 vegetarians over 21 years by the German Cancer Research Center (Deutsche Krebsforschungszentrum). The study’s shocking results: vegetarian men reduced their risk of early death by 50%! Women vegetarians benefit from a 30% reduction in mortality.

Long-term Study of Vegetarians

The participants of the the German Cancer Research Center study included 60 vegans (no animal products consumed), 1165 vegetarians (eating eggs, milk but no meat) with the remainder described as “moderate” vegetarians who occasionally ate fish or meat. The health of these study participants was compared with the average German population. Living longer seems not to be exclusively related to eating meat, though, as the results for moderate vegetarians was not statistically different from those for vegan or strict vegetarian diets.

To the argument that it is not vegetarianism but a general interest in a healthier lifestyle which leads to such notable results, scientists reply with evidence that the majority of vegetarians do not cite health reasons for their lifestyle, but make their choice based on ethical commitment, environmental concerns or simply personal taste.

Research by a team led by Professor Ibrahim Elmadfa at the University of Vienna found a much better than average intake of Vitamin C, Carotinoides, Folic acid, fiber and unsaturated fats. Where shortcomings may arise is for Vitamin B12, calcium und Vitamin D in a vegan diet. Astoundingly, however, study participants did not suffer from diseases, such as osteoporosis, typically related to inadequate intakes of these micro-nutrients.
 
BB diets are complicated enough as it is... There may be health benefits to being a vegetarian but as a BB i don't think it would be possible to see nearly as many positive gains without meat.

A regular person might substitute meat for alternative sources of protein. As a BB how many beans can you possibly eat? I can appreciate the benefits but I think unless people are active & very much involved in daily food intake & covering all the bases not overlooking anything, the disadvantages through improper nutrition would outweigh the benefits by a long shot. People might live longer if they do everything right... My guess though is if they didn't they would probably be the ones with shorter lifespans.

I was forced to be veggie when I was a child. I used to go to friends houses and beg for meat. Not to say my parents weren't healthy and didn't know how to eat properly, because they were and they did. It just wasn't for me.

When I started eating meat full time when I was 8, after my parents split, I grew like crazy. I was 6'3" by 12 and was the strongest kid in school. Granted after I stopped growing I got fat because I didn't know how to eat properly.

I guess what I'm getting at is that I didn't know what meat was when I was a kid, all I knew is that my body wanted it more than anything.

I donot eat meat OR fish (cept fish oil)
and i am growing just fine.

I have not eatin fish for over 10yrs and no meat for over 8yrs.

You do not need meat to live, you do not need meat to be a BBR.... but to each his own.
 
i may only be 190ish (200-205 by spring ;-) ) but im kinda short at 5'7" and BF% not sure probibly 14ish % (I can still see abs and dont god fat deposits anywhere i notice)

*for the next guy thats gonna ask if i look like an AID's patiant or somthing.*

also only been bbing 5ish yrs so my growth is onyl going uplol not liek soem in there 40s and yet taller then me and lighter then me yet they think there some kind of bbing guru lol

To each his own is right. As for me, I couldn't live without meat & see no point or benefit to avoiding it. IMO If you're as big as you are without it, you'd easily have another 20lbs of lean mass if you did eat it.

Do whatever works for you tho who the fuck am I to tell anyone what to do??

but yah i got shit when i was on a vegan forum they didnt like m name too much lol
now most of them DID look like aids vic's.
I dont know how/why some would even dare post pics of them selvs but they did doing a double bicep poses ect. lol
o well.
 
Vegetarian diet is very good. and i don't eat non-veg. i hate non veggies. in Vegetarian milk is very good liquid food.... and also much more.
