i hurt my shoulder 3 months ago and havent lifted since, i looklike shit now, arm got skinny and chest caved in. anyway im about to start again but if my shoulder is still ef'ed up what can i do to save as much muscle as i can w/out lifting?

depends on the nature of your shoulder injury. many times, you can find alternate movements that you can substitute in. for example, i had a very bad injury to my sub-scapular muscle when i let my shoulder get internally rotated doing heavy pressdowns with the rope. result was i found myself unable to do any pressing movements because that muscle stabilizes the upper arm and to load it up with as little as 50 pounds in a bench press was excruciating.

i soon found that i couldn't military but i could do pull to chins and lateral raises. i couldn't bench but i could do a reasonalbe amount of weight in flies if i held my arms just so. you have to find a way if its possible.

in the meantime, you ought to be able to shrug, do deads, and all manner of leg movements. if gripping the bar hurts in squats, just push your hands out all the way to the plates and drape them over the bar. move slowly and stay in control and you should manage.

most important is don't just stop. you worked hard for all that muscle, don't just throw it away. do what you can. also, get that shoulder evaluated by a medical professional.

good luck with that. I have gotten injuries where i couldnt really do shit (broke my hand). Tried lifting, but iwas really limited since you always use your hands. So i figured i would just get ripped doing caredio. That didnt work cause once my heart rate got up there, my hand would throb like a beast and press on the inside of the cast.

i finally said fuck it. Kept my protein real high, and watched lots of t.v. while eating good amounts of percoets. just chilled and enjoyed the time off. it is a valid reason to be a lazy bitch, right?

when i got it off, i hit the gym hard and felt great. Got bigger and stronger than ever. Time off is great sometimes.

Body weight exercises can help to maintaim muscle during "injury timeouts" Arnold lays out a great body weight routine in the book "Arnold: The Education of a Bodybuilder" -- although if you have any experiance in bodybuiding you will know how to train using bodyweight ... but the book has a good program none the less
