working on diet at college...

hey guys currently on a cycle week 4 of 250mg Test E E3D... currently 6'3'' ~250. i play football here, and in general am limited to standard college food 3x a day.. i try my best to eat as well as i can but it can be tough... looking for any advice on my current diet, problems etc... anything i can buy that'd keep in a dorm that would be good? i'm trying to put on muscle at this point and maintain my weight ish... probably trying to play next football season at a slightly leaner and faster 240-260.

here's what i have in a typical day, of course it varies a lot based on what they have:

8:30 AM breakfast.. either an omlet filled with meat/vegetables or biscuits and gravy, some of their sausage, cut up potato things, a couple pancakes/waffles with syrup. with a couple glasses milk
(have eggs, full salad bar with cottage cheese fruit etc etc, omlets, potatos, cereal, pancakes/waffles, and either ham or sausage to choose from)

12:00 lunch.. basically lunch and dinner are pretty much the same. i'll usually have a good portion of cottage cheese, anything with good amounts of chicken that'll they have, usually have whatever their special is, and then maybe a grilled cheese and hamburger or hot dog..

(they serve pizza, spaghetti type stuff with various sauces, burgers regular and turkey, salad bar, hot dogs, and grilled cheese sandwiches every day. then each meal they'll have a couple random specials, pretty much everything you can imagine, sometimes good chicken but sometimes somethin like lasagna)

4:30 Workout, followed by PWO Optimum 100% Whey Shake

6:00 Supper.. pretty much identical to lunch just with different specials

9:00 sometimes snack here... wish i knew of somethin with good protein though..

12:00 go to sleep after having a Optimum 100% Casein Shake and i also take GNC Glutamine and Optimum Opti-Men Multivitamin

so yea any advice is appreciated, i don't think my diet is terrible but really would like to improve it.

Thanks guys,
-AE

well, your diet is.. for the most part.. horrible...

i have a free diet advice thread that gives you alotta information that you need to know... its in the diet section.. read over the sticky.. then see what you can do..

do you have a kitchen??

can you buy a whole roasted chicken and put it in a fridge??

J your thread is actually why i figured i'd get more proactive about trying to fix my diet. trust me when i'm at home my diet is very different, mostly lots of lean chicken and then a lean red meat around supper/late meal.

but i'll be stuck with this kind of food for at least the rest of this school year. i don't have a full kitchen, anything i have needs to cookable with a microwave/fridge or whatever but no oven.

keep in mind though that i'm not a bodybuilder and not really trying to cut BF or look sexy.. for most of the offseason my goal is really just strength gains and muscle growth, only really concerned with trying to get adequate protein in my diet

i was thinkin about making some homemade protein bars like these: http://www.needtobuildmuscle.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10
are these as good as real food if i chow a few down everyday?

im pretty good financially.. housing and food and everything is covered and i have a prolly average amount of money left over for whatever.. which i'd gladly spend on food that could stay in the dorm.

is beef jerky really that healthy? anywhere where one can buy that stuff in bulk just like a huge sack of it or somethin? cus those little bags seem really expensive for what you get

Im in the same boat but luckily I dont eat that much so food lasts me a long time. I just pack all my meals for school.

sounds like you live in a house or commute then? my main problem is i live in a standard dorm..

how many of those eggs can you have? are there boiled eggs?? cottage cheese is good too... fruit will work in moderation... what kind of potatos are those?? i guess you could incorporate that in your diet.. starches are good to it's limitation... are they red potatoes? white? sweet? ham and sausage are poor choices.. but we gotta work with what we have
12:00 lunch.. basically lunch and dinner are pretty much the same. i'll usually have a good portion of cottage cheese, anything with good amounts of chicken that'll they have, usually have whatever their special is, and then maybe a grilled cheese and hamburger or hot dog..
forget the hamburger or hot dog... eat up the chicken and cottage cheese...

i would add a semi-simple carb here.. can you get your hands on white bagels??
6:00 Supper.. pretty much identical to lunch just with different specials

9:00 sometimes snack here... wish i knew of somethin with good protein though..
beef jerky.... do you have a costco where your at??
12:00 go to sleep after having a Optimum 100% Casein Shake and i also take GNC Glutamine and Optimum Opti-Men Multivitamin
glutamine before bed???

we need a bf estimate... do you have a gut?? could you sent me a pic?? you can pm it if you like.. or you can e-mail me if needed... let me know..

your purpose is to eat about 6-8oz of meat per meal... you need to see what you can get your hands on... it's difficult for me to set you up with a diet plan when your so limited to food sources... im checking out those protien bars right now.. ill let you know about them..

yeah dorms suck, I lied and said I lived at home when I was 17 and just got an apt.

I can work on getting a picture to you here soon got no pics of my shirt off on me.. i guesstimate myself around 25% or so just based off all the pictures i've seen of people that know their BF.. i do have a gut not huge compared to an OL but its definitely there, but annoyingly enough basically none on my arms and legs.

about your comments:
everything is all you can eat... the eggs are scrambled eggs that come from the liquid.. processed whatever you wanna call it. love the cottage cheese. the potatos i have trouble describing but they're just like sliced up and cooked somehow... vary between red and white, usually mixed in with vegetables.

i def know that the hamburger or hot dog isnt healthy.. just a lot of the times its like minced up chicken mixed with a buncha vegetables and sauce on pasta... not sure how much protein could even be in that. but at the same time just today there was herb baked chicken stuff that i destroyed.. it really just varies a lot..

i can get bagels they're all over the place, ill probably pick some up and take them back to my dorm.

i've heard before bed is a good time to take Glutamine, although i often will take it PWO. but my Proteins already have BCAAs in them 4g "glutamine and precursors"/serving in the whey and 10g in the casien.

and those protein bars i wasnt realy thinking specifically... just never really thought about making your own til i saw that from the site sponsor! googling around now it seems like i can probably make some with my own whey protein mixed with some other crap... will probably just try one out here once i find one that looks reasonable

yeah dorms suck, I lied and said I lived at home when I was 17 and just got an apt.

lol yea that's def the way to go; ill most likely be getting a house with a couple guys next yr.

advice is very very much appreciated bro!!

id say you should look at my cutting diet example, see how you could compare to it.. how you could source food to be similar... it's really freakin tough to get a diet set up when you have NO idea what your eating.. not to discourage you, we're gonna figure this out...

i carry a cooler with me at school.. get weird looks but i dont give a fuck...

thanks a ton man...
checked out your diet again and thats definitely what i'm shooting for.. just such a rare commodity to have nice chunks of chicken breast or turkey breast here
i guess i dono what i was hoping to hear i mean nothing anyone can do about the caf... i take it you live off campus too?

but yea i snagged bagels down for PWO like you suggested.. still just getting enough protein is what really worries me that im holding back my gains. dont really care about losing weight/fat at all until maybe july or so, really just trying to pack strength and muscle on.

any other suggestions on things i could keep in a dorm to supplement the caf? i'll probably be looking at some beef jerkey next time i can get to sam's or costco.. they're around but i don't have a membership so i need to go with people that do. is peanut really that bad? seems like it has a good amount of protein there and would keep..

you need to be eating about 300g of protien a day..

8oz of protien averages from 50-70g predicated on the type of meat your eating...

so you would need to eat about 2 1/2llbs of meat a day... i personally eat 8oz of meat 5 times a day (the other one is bfast, and eggs)

since you have access to eggs.. eat away!!! you should eat the equivlent of 6 eggs in the morning..

sure thing man i'll be sure to switch some of that crap i've been havin in the morning to eggs and whatever else i can.. appreciate all the advice you've given me!

keep me updated..

the best thing you can do is keep a detailed log of what your eating daily.. we'll make adjustments that way... keep me posted bro..

i really feel like this thread is half-assed because i havn't given you anything concrete...

get that log going... we'll figure it all out

sure man... and lol definitely dont feel like it was half assed!! I really appreciate it a ton bro. i'll get that log goin and post it up tomorrow night.

drop the muffin...

drop the powerade.. talk about diabetic coma!! lol.. powerade is like sugar water.. insulin spikes are caused by them... turkey burger is a great choice. minimize the pasta.. add some veggies

soo whats multi?? can you get your hands on some almond butter or avocados??

just to get you started

drop the muffin...
sure done..

drop the powerade.. talk about diabetic coma!! lol.. powerade is like sugar water.. insulin spikes are caused by them... turkey burger is a great choice. minimize the pasta.. add some veggies
guess i've just thought that a good amount of carbs is good for energy.. same reason as the powerade. should i just stick to water? milk?
glad the turkey burger is good tho

soo whats multi?? can you get your hands on some almond butter or avocados??
multi i meant my multivitamin: Bodybuilding.com - Optimum Opti-Men - More Than A Multi! On sale now!

never even heard of almond butter or that avacado is good for you til i read your threads but i can look into getting some of that stuff

the only time u need powerade is while your in the middle of a workout.. or a football game.. etc..
