You could probably cut it down to 3 times a week. Cardio is good for your heart, so I wouldn't cut it out completely. Plus it improves your stamina and endurance which weights can't do as well. I usually swim or ride my bike about 3-times a week and lift 4 days a week.
You could still follow a low-carb diet even with some starchy foods. Someone mentioned that you could have intestinal issues by going on a veggie and fruit diet. Would yogurt help to put good bacteria back into your stomach?
My gym is usually busy enough that there's no room for campers. Everyone is good at using the equipment and moving onto the next machine. Usually every machine is available or there's only one person waiting for the next. The waiting time gives good time to rest up from the last machine.
I don't get up to pee but I still wake up throughout the night. I think I rarely sleep a straight 8 hours a night without waking. I've never heard about how it's supposed to be 8 hours of sleep that are uninterrupted.
I love swimming as it's great cardio but it's much more refreshing than running or cycling. I'd say cycling is my second favorite cardio. As far as the hypothermia thing, most pools are around 86 degrees or so. The water isn't cold at all and I never shiver especially when the air is warmer.
