10 yr old deadlifting

So I started my shift at the gym a few hours ago and when I show up I see this kid and his father at the deads station...
What are your thoughts on a 10 yr old training deads (bad form) and drinking a 700 calorie shake we make here at the gym?

Tough one for me to answer as I was 12 when I started resistance training, but I'm also a parent and know that he could be messing up his kid's joints by doing this. I have no clue what the shake would do to the child, but I'd imagine his kidneys can't process that much protein at once. I know most gyms I have been to have a policy on underage kids and drinking the shakes, so I'm curious if Dad's just trying to toughen up his kid or what.

Good question, that's for sure.

What the fuck??? I started young, but fuck me running. I wouldn't do that to my child. Its going to hurt him in the long run. And i bet he starts him on gear at 12. And then he may make it Pro, but he is gonna be on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) forever. But then again everyone has their way of doing things and opinions.

Well the kids form wasn't all that great and he was wearing a lifting belt which obviously didn't fit a 10 yr old properly...I talked to his parents and they are trying to get him to gain because he is too small...wtf? Let the kid grow at his own pace...
Personally I think the kids dad wants an all star

It's good that he's getting his kid into weight lifting early. If he's into fitness he'll be far less likely to become either a fatass or a stringbean. Plus it's father son bonding time. But yeah, his father needs to show him proper form, otherwise he might injure himself.

Nothing wrong with lifting at 10yo IF, and it's a huge IF, proper form and progression are followed. Sounds like the dad is pushing the son too much from how you described it but it all depends on the circumstances.

Sounds like the old man has no fucking idea what he's doing either. Any parent, or person in their right mind with knowledge of training, PROPER training, would not let their fucking 10 year old do that.

Yeah If they can get him to do proper form and some light weights there's nothing wrong with it, but until then it's not looking the greatest.
