just one very simple question??

when using the 5x5 routine.
what timings do you use etc....?
timings between reps, sets etc?
do you only do one muscle group a week and how long do you work on each muscle....
Do you only do three exercise for each muscle under the 5x5 method???

Any more advice on the method and timings etc... would be good..

I am aiming to bulk as much as possible..

I took the 5x5 as...

One set per bodypart using the 5x5 method, then pick 2 more excersizes for that bodypart and do 2 higher rep sets each. I hit each bodypart once a week when I did it and had awesome results. I used a natural cadance and just rested till I felt good and ready between sets. You want the most bulk possible? Key thing is not to overtrain.

Yeah over training is a bad thing... so you only do 3 exercise for each body part a week then?
So once a week is fine as long as you smash that muscle group?
Do you do 1 bodypart a day or only go to the gym say 3 times a week and mix body parts like back/chest bi/tris shoulders/legs etc..??
I spose it would really matter.. so how much below your average weight did you start when you did the 5x5 method?

when i did 5x5 i did this:
monday: chest
wed: legs, abs
friday: back, abs
the small stuff like bi's, and calves do them as needed.

been doing 5x5 with 3-5 min rest between sets
with two other exercises for the same body part at 3x12.

had great results went form 190 to 205 in 4wks.

i think what douge meant was 1 "excersise" for 5 "sets" of 5x5. then the rest of your excersizes for that body part at higher reps. and post how it goes,, i have never completed a full 10 weeks of 5x5 workouts and would like to know if its a good bulking technique!!!! ???

u do realize that the 5x5 means 5 reps and 5 sets right? here is what i did when i used 5x5,
ex. chest . incline 5 sets of say 230lbs
u do 5 reps for 5 sets, if u can get the last rep on the last set by yourself then next week go up by 5 lbs. then i would do 2 or 3 more exersizes using 2 sets with 12 reps a set.

In the end its all about slow steady progression. The 5x5 is an easy way to keep track of progress and keep making progress week to week. Any routine that allows you to keep making poundage progress will be productive. Greatest strength increases=greatest size increases.
