Advice on Capturing Intimate Moments at Weddings?

Hey everyone,

I’ve recently started shooting weddings, and I'm looking for tips on how to capture those truly intimate, candid moments without being intrusive. I want to be as invisible as possible while still getting those raw, emotional shots that tell the story of the day.

How do you stay close enough to capture emotion, but far enough to not disrupt the flow? Any lens recommendations or techniques to help with this? Also, how do you deal with different lighting situations during the ceremony and reception?

Appreciate any advice you can share! Thanks!

Hey! Congrats on starting your wedding photography journey! For capturing intimate moments without being intrusive, a good approach is using a longer focal length lens, like a 70-200mm. This allows you to shoot from a distance while still getting close, emotional shots. Prime lenses like 85mm or 50mm also work well for staying discreet.

For lighting, invest in a fast lens (f/2.8 or lower) to handle low light situations, especially in churches or dim receptions. When shooting candid moments, switch to silent shutter mode if possible to stay unnoticed. And always scout the venue beforehand to anticipate tricky lighting spots!
