Any benefit to this?

After my entire chest workout, one of the trainers at the gym told me to do what he calls a "burnout session", where once my chest was already toasted, he had me bench press just the 20K bar as many times as i could for two sets. I did it, and i could only push that stupid bar up 25 times the first set and 15 times the second set. I mean my chest was trashed! I was just wondering if anyone could tell me the point of doing this type of "burnout". I mean i felt the damn burn... but is there any true benefit to doing this? Should i be doing this often? Should i try it with other lifts? Could this actually be a bad thing in any way to do? I just need some facts on this type of lifting.

I wouldn't waste my time if I was you. At least do a drop set or something else productive. The burn you are feeling is a build up of lactic acid. imo its not doing anything positive for muscle building.

I was kinda thinking the same thing. Drop sets are great, and this burnout thing felt like it might have just been a waste of my time. I was just skeptical of it and wanted to know if i was the only one who thought that. Thanks!
