Anyone run supraphysiological? Potentially counter productive

I know as a general rule of thumb, you can take the dose of T and multiply by 10 to determine blood levels. So those of us on 100 mg of T, have test levels around 1,000 ng/dL roughly. Those of us on 150 - 1,500 approximately, and 200- about 2,000. First off, I'd like guys to list the dose, their testosterone levels, and the duration they've been using that dose. This should all make sense after reading what's below.

I've been on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) for a couple of years now, and have come to realize a few things. My journey started with 5 grams of androgel and some HCG , and ended up taking me from a total testosterone in the low hundreds to one hovering around 1,500 ng/dL. Now, you can imagine the kind of things this drastic spike did to my body. I was essentially starved of test for quite awhile, and I think that was my doctors reasoning for leaving me up there to cruise so high, at least at first. A few months passed and still no request to lower any of my dosages by my doctor. At this point I sure as hell wasn't going to argue. I had gained 40 lbs in five months, and was feeling like..well the shit.

Fastforward to six months later and I started to notice something was off. That incredible muscle tone I had developed over the past year was slowly fading. Only because I was still looking and feeling good, did I ignore what was happening. As weeks passed, I started to realize I was getting smaller, which was strange because the scales hadn't budged. I weighed the same but looked as though I had lost 15 lbs or so. I go in to see the doc and check how everything's looking lab wise. Test is still up there, 900 ng/dL and E2 is in check. I had heard that for some transdermals eventually stop absorbing correctly, something with the stratum corneum or epidermis thickening, but I never thought anything of it because of the results androgel was giving me.

As time went on I knew something was definitely up. I made the switch to injections , first at 120 mg every two weeks, a shitty protocol for sure. That obviously didn't work so I was bumped up to 200 mg a week and have been there ever since (keep in mind this is two years after starting a gel). Recently I've been searching for answers on why everything shifted.

I thought maybe it was a thyroid issue, despite never really losing any weight, I had lost muscle and hyperthyrodisim could possible account for that. T4 and TSH both came up completely normal..which put an end to that potential theory. I then considered the possibility that after that much time with supraphysiological testosterone levels , I had developed an androgen resistance, or down regulation. After reading into that, I discovered that the scientific verdict on androgen receptor down regulation is that it doesn't occur, rather up regulation seems more fitting for real world results.

So that leaves me to consider that something goes haywire when testosterone levels are left out of that normal window, and into the supraphysiological range for too long. I've had my liver checked out, ALT, AST, all the enzymes and everything in range, nothing going on there. I'm considering moving back down to 100 mg for a few months to allow my body to readjust, and then blast 400 for a few months and then back down to 100. I'm curious as to whether or not anyone else has experienced this, and also if any other guys run in the thousands and continue to look and feel good.

Your skin does become less amenable to the gel/cream after a while. You find this with all transdermals, not just test (fentanyl patches do the same thing for example).

I don't have the same issues you have, but I can tell you that multiplying your dosage by 10 does NOT equate to your blood serum levels. It is completely individualistic in that some guys can get by on 100mg/wk and others (like me) require 200mg/wk+. I started at 120ng/dL natural and after a month at 100mg/wk was up to 240ng/dL, it wasn't until we increased to 200mg/wk that I started to see my levels increase to manageable levels of 450ng/dL. I am now up to 250mg/wk (125 E3D) and have my levels at a respectable 750-850ng/dL. Stick with the injections, and see how it goes after a few months. Just be careful with blasting and cruising as coming in with levels off the scale is a sure-fire way to get your doc to yank your script for testosterone. ;)

Damn good point! I've come across threads where a lot of guys are talking about how 100, 150, or even 200 just doesn't cut it for them. You're still within physiologic levels though, so everything should be fine for you. If I do blast and cruise I'll make sure its with a bit of tren ace or something that I have control over. Usually my labs are done 5 months apart from eachother, leaving me with plenty of time to come back down.
Thanks for the pointers.

I have run into this exactly. I have been on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) for almost 3 years. I am now going at 200 mgs a week (split into 2 injections a week). My first year I made some really significant gains. Probably gained a solid 20 lbs while reducing body fat. I have stayed at about the same weight, but feel like my body composition has taken a hit. My libido has fallen off as well (compared to how it was that first year). I am still better than where I was before testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), but I hit a plateau, and then have taken a step back. I, like you, have no idea of why this is. After reading a few posts on here, I am starting to think it is my SHGB is too high (ie my free test has been running too high for too long). The only way to get this back in alignment is to decrease dosage from what I have read.

I could understand the topical getting less effective, but not real sure why it would happen when pinning. I wonder if it could be like an anticebo effect. After being on for a while you get used to it, may not be as excited about gains, not training as hard, eating as clean, etc. I'm interested to hear what the vets have to say though.

It was explained to me by two of the vets on another forum. Basically, when you're testosterone levels run in the supraphysiologic range for a significant duration of time, your body develops many different types of tolerances to try to maintain homeostasis. No, not AR down regulation and not a tolerance to test itself, but myostatin, cortisol increases, things of that nature and an overall confusion of the body. Part of that natural homeostasis is having all the hormones in check. So what we've been doing wrong is running too high for too long, and our body is sick of responding to it.

This is where a reset becomes necessary. Everyone's different, but the purpose of a testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) dose is to put you within normal physiological limits, not to constantly cruise on high. Most guys find there sweet spot, but I'm fairly certain no one's sweet spot is near 2,000..at least not for over a year. When the body is allowed to reset for a few months, homeostasis is regained and the body is ready for a do over. This time around I plan on doing a little blast and cruise every once in a while. So lower the dose to 100 mg a week for 3 months, then blast for a month or so some tren and more test. I haven't exactly considered how much as I have the vets on the other forum helping to situate that out.

Plain and simple though, everyone who cycles usually does post cycle therapy (pct) or comes back down to testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) like doses. This is their reset. I'm willing to bet that tgone is in the same situation as me, and simply needs a reset.
