Are salads bad for you?

Just wondering if eating a couple of salads a day with some veggies is a good idea? Can it be bad for you if you want to lose weight?
I would love to hear from the people.

It can be bad if you go overboard on the dressings, I imagine.

Salads are good for you as long as 1) there is no cheese, or just a bit of parm, 2) they don't contain a lot of fatty foods like - bacon, whole eggs, avacado, it can have some, just not a lot, and 3) dressing is lite - a tablespoon of flax seed oil and a teaspoon of apple cider vinager is nice.

are there any carbs?

someone has said that salads have quite a few carbs.
i didn't really believe that. i can't see a salad which i have with no bacon or cheese and just with a little bit of vinager an oil could be bad for me.

My salads consist of spinach, cabbage, olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

MMM MMMM Good!

When trying to loose weight, you need to run at a calorie deficit. Salad has calories, so if you are eating too much salad, or any other food, such that your daily caloric intake is higher than your maintenance caloric intake, you will put on weight.

That being said, salads, when made without all the bad stuff mentioned, are not a calorie dense food. You can eat lots of salad for the same calories as a Snickers bar. The Snickers bar wont fill you up long and wont provide as much nutrients and beneficial "stuff". So salad is a good, if used properly. :D

check this site out, it is intended for atkins dieters, but fat, protein, and cals are included as well;)

Just click on vegetables and you will see, lettuce has very little carbohydrates, it just all depends what you are putting into the salad... carrots would be the highest in carb value for a salad

i usually Cook up some Broccoli and Cauliflower, add some Hot Sauce and some Mrs. Dash Seasoning, and myabe some Vinegar and Eat like Half a Bag of Salad before my Meals!! (Gotta have a Salad)

eating salad at least a few times per day is definitely a good idea. i make my own dressing with olive oil, lemon and salt. the greener the salad, the more chlorophil and the better it will be for you. i use alot of spinach, celery, cucumber, tomatoe, and i always try to throw in some fresh mushrooms as they are packed with amino acids and will complement whatever protein you eat during the day. avocado is not bad for you in any way, but if you are cutting then i suppose you may want to stay away. eating salads regularly should also help out your digestive system as the raw foods will cool down internal heat and swelling of the digestive tract as well as provide lots of fiber. you cannot go wrong with salads.
