someone told me the body can't differentiate aspartame from sugar and therefore insulin levels are spiked when its consumed... I have no idea how to find ths answer - does anyone know?
I drink a lot of crystal light mixed with water, is this still a good source of water?
So stringbean, if aspartame can knock you out of ketosis, does that mean aspartame is acting as a carbohydrate, thus releasing insulin in the process??? could u expand on this?
I don't believe that aspartame is digested. I think that it passes through like sorbitol. Could be wrong. I do know that it does depend on the person if you come out of ketosis or not. Aspartame does turn into formaldehyde if it is heated high enough. I personally think that the stuff is shit.
it's citric acid that knocks people out of ketosis sometimes... you were referring to diet colas, right string bean? i should say that some argue that the body will neurally cause insulin to be released by the pancreas when aspartame has been ingested... but i haven't heard any diabetics complaining. it's a controversial idea.
personally, i avoid ingesting too much aspartame. look for products that contain splenda... and buy splenda for sweetening on your own.
i also recommend you stick to water as much as possible, though i enjoy the odd raspberry ice crystal light treat.
