Assisted Squat Machine....

I'm not sure if there is a proper name for this machine. I was wondering how much weight is it without any weights on it?

do you know how many different squat machines there are?

are you talking about a smith machine? there are countless versions of this as well.

i dont worry about actual weight, who cares if its 10 pounds or 100 pounds unloaded as long as your putting more weight on it over time.

I figured there could be many but I wasn't sure.

I want to know the actual weight and compare it with some other female lifters on another forum. And if it's good I want to brag brag brag.

it could be a hack squat or a smith machine.

Lifting weights is a battle between u and the iron...not someone else. There is always someone out there who is better then you

smith machine..... bar ways 15lbs
it completely depends on the machine. Im a member at 2 gyms, and have a metro pass which allows me to work at any location of a 3rd companies' chain of gyms and they all have different smith machines and the bars all weigh different amounts. Some feel as if they have no resistance, some feel to be about 15, some feel much much heavier.

but i like how the OP can make a vague reference to a machine that works legs and you automatically know the exact weight of it unloaded :scratchhe

I agree. Squats are your number one leg exercise. Perhaps some 45 degree leg press and hypers too.

If you're talking about smith machine squats then I'd ask you to think again. I know they're really popular, especially with girls. They look to me like they were designed by the chiropractors' association. Even if your back doesn't get ruined your knees are sure to go. I wonder what smith machine squats can give you that ordinary squats can't?

this is why i do plate loading/unloading on leg presses...so people are forced to do squats! smith squats are uncomfortable for me. it's like i'm locked in

LOL! I guess your coach is right about getting the form right first...but how bad could it be that it's taking you a month to sort it out?? I fixed my form after about 2 mins of doing it wrong :insane2:

Congrats on the new lift, 315lbs is very good (i'm assuming it's that much, otherwise you wouldn't be bragging). Just kididng keep it up, you should start an online journal, it really helps you track your progress and is great motivation.

Agreed. Free Squats are the only way to go! I find smith machine squats very uncomfortable. The movement doesn't feel natural. I'll stick with regular squats.
