bicep infection

massive

New member
3days out frm comp and ive only got an infection in my bicep, slight swelling and redness and sore to touc for past 3days now.

any other steps i can take apart from going to docs nd getting antibiotics, as the swelling is causing my bicep 2 look smooth and i want he smoothness gone asap.

will b goin docs anyway bt just need anyfin else that will help.

thanks

I'm taking it that you injected your bicep. Just because there's slight swelling and redness does not always indicate an infection. Could just be a bad injection. Do you have flu symptoms? is it hot to the touch? Have you injected the same stuff in the same location without a problem?

Just to be clear, if you do have an infection in your bicep the last thing I would be worried about is a competition...

i injected into my delt on monday and it was very painful for the next couple days...yesterday i noticed the whole area around it is red, warm and still painful

i'm guessing infection?

is this the type of infection that will pass on it's own or is a doctor really necessesary?

how and what do i tell the doctor???

My advice is if it is an infection you need to bite the bullet and go see your doctor for anti-biotics. Not worth risking an abcess for the sake of a quick dose of AB's. IMHO

but what's a sure fire way to know it's an infection?

it's not as red anymore, just still warm-ish and still painfull

i was thinking it might jsut be bruised now...the injection was more to the rear of the delt

Order some antibiotics if you dont want to go to the doc. It would be best if you did!! I keep keflex on hand just in case of a infection.

i had the same problem, dont panic, your muscle seem 2 be inflamed and there isn any
need4antibiotics if ur swelling and pain not increase. usualy is will disapeare after approx.
10 days.i had this problem twice and stay instead now 2 my "old" brand rather as2risk side effects like u wittnessed as our research somewhere is limitet.

ok well that's good to know as being a possibility

my right delt, which i injected on monday, it still sore, but not as warm to the touch

wednesday night (and last night for a bit) i was very very warm and feeling not the greatest...lots of sleep has seemed to help that out

but my right delt still has a hard ballish spot (right near the injection) that still has me worried

is is normal or the test to sit in the muscle that long??

i injected my left delt and it's definetly getting the same sort of more solid feeling around the injection site

i'm sticking with my glutes from now on

Cephalexin
Keflex and Keftab are cephalosporin antibiotics. They are prescribed for bacterial infections of the respiratory tract, the middle ear, the bones, the skin, and the reproductive and urinary systems.

Warnings
If you are allergic to either penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics in any form, consult your doctor before taking Keflex. There is a possibility that you are allergic to both types of medication and if a reaction occurs, it could be extremely severe. If you take the drug and feel signs of a reaction, seek medical attention immediately.

Dose
Throat, Skin, and Urinary Tract Infections
The usual adult dosage is 500 milligrams taken every 12 hours. Cystitis (bladder infection) therapy should be continued for 7 to 14 days.

Other Infections
The usual recommended dosage is 250 milligrams taken every 6 hours. For more severe infections, larger doses may be needed, as determined by your doctor.

My doctor prescribed me Keflex for a possible site infection at 1000mg per day split 500mg each for 8-10days(I forget how long it was for)

I remember seeing a suggested protocol on another forum I'll try to find it.

Cephalexin Dose for Bacterial Infections
The recommended dose of cephalexin for most types of bacterial infections is 250 mg to 1000 mg, taken four times a day for 7 to 14 days. For chronic or more serious infections, your healthcare provider may continue treatment for a longer period of time.

In children, the cephalexin dosage can range, depending on body weight, from 25 mg to 100 mg per kilogram of body weight per day (mg/kg/day). The dose is divided and taken three to four times a day for 7 to 14 days. Children should generally be limited to 4000 mg or less per day.

Random Keflex testimonials...

"Cephalexin (keflex)...that's what the doc prescribed for me..my first shot
and i got infected..no more glutes for me.. quads now..

glutes only if i got a 1.5 inch needle.

anyway it was keflex 500mg @4 times a day for 7 days.

That's all you will need. it actually was gone in 2 days..but just finish the
course..so they don't become resistant.

Best antibiotic choice for this is Cephalexin (Keflex).

Typical dosing regimen is 500mg, 4 x a day for 7-10 days accompanied by 1-2 grams of rocephin injection.

hanks bud. Ive had a prior cephalexin script @ 500mg 4x day for 5 days, which is a bit off compared to what that site says. I wonder how much of a difference it makes. f'n infections. This is one reason i like long esters, less pinning = less chance of this.

If you have an infection you would be getting fevers as your bodies mechanism of fighting it off. The injection site can get inflamed and hot, and still not be an infection. I found out the hard way that I am allergic to Cipro. My skin came off in sheets, and had chronic fatique that was the worst thing I ever experienced. Be careful with your decisions. Ythrashin seems well informed.

ok well i'll give my update.....right delt kept hurting till about saturday

today, both feel fine (even the left delt i did on thursday...i injected this one myself nice and slow....my partner did my left one obviously too quick)

definetly had a fever there for those two nights, but luckly nothing major, my body was able to deal with it
