My wife purchased some coconut oil yesterday saying it's the how new thing to improve cholesterol and lose belly fat.

Anyone have experience with this? How much do you eat per day? Noticed any benefits ?

I'm a little leery about something that is the "hot new thing"

coconut oil is good but there is nothing magic about losing weight

There's some solid science behind MCT use, but it's still calories in versus calories out. NOTHING short of injections to the abdomen of some nasty thermogenics will target belly fat.

Anyone trying to state you can spot reduce fat (with the exception of above, or a new experimental drug) is trying to sell you something. ;)

rikardo and hlafwit - Agree 100% that calories are calories. I'm going to add coconut oil into my diet in moderation (of course tracking calories and macros accordingly) and see if it helps the old cholesterol numbers. Since starting TRT, my numbers have started to creep in the wrong direction.

MCT oil or Cocunut oil works best on a low carb diet,, medium chain tri-glyserrides are available rather quickly to be used for energy, compared to other fats (that take a long time to digest). to get the best fat loss benefit from this you'd reduce your 'carb' calories and replace with these fast acting 'fat' calories, to be used as energy. Also, MCT oil has been shown to help speed up the process of producing Ketones for someone getting onto a ketogenic fat loss diet.

But, simply adding coconut oil to your existing diet is going to do nothing more then add more calories to your 'macros',,, its not magic by itself.
