Confused about 5x5

OK I think I am being pretty dumb, and I'm sorry that I keep asking stupid questions about 5x5, but would appreciate some help.

I can't understand how you would get the same number of reps on the second set of the 8-10 rep exercises as the first set if both sets are taken to failure.

If I train to failure the first set then there's no way I will get the same number of reps on the second set with the same weight.

If I train to complete failure then I lose strength on the next set, so if I get 9 reps on the first set of incline flies and have taken it to failure then I may only get 7 reps on the second set. How should I keep the failure sets in the 8-10 rep range ??

Note: I understand that the 5x5 is not to be taken to failure, I am asking about the additional exercises.

Many thanks.

If you wanted to stay at 5 reps exactly (I dont bother with that) then you'd have to change the weights.

since you should be increasing your 5x5 weight it may not be possible to get the same number of reps with the same weight for the secondary moves..once i can get 10 reps for 2 sets i up the weight..you may find that you can only do 9 the first sets and 7 the next..try to squeeze out an extra rep or two each week then try to up the weight again..
