Aspartame links to cancer in rats were only in doses much larger than any human were be able to consume from food. There has been EXTENSIVE research on aspartame and yet no credible links to cancer were found and countless studies and no doctor worth his salt would condemn it. That's why it's approved for usage in almost every country. Negative affects on liver have not been documented.
I wasn't aware that diet sodas contained sugar alcohols. I have seen the sugar alcohols being used more and more in zero calories drinks like Sobe, etc, but never in sodas.
I can't imagine much harm from consuming several diet sodas a week. Water is the best choice (and least expensive) for hydration.
