Do lat pulldowns work the same muscles as a pull up?

Yes, however, a pull up requires virtually every muscle in the body to strain. That is why it is the ultimate test of one's strength. Lat pulldowns are a great warm up and a way to work up to being able to do pull ups, however, once you can do 12+ pull ups, adding a weight belt to pullups is far better than doing pulldowns, in my opinion.

Thanks!

I assumed pretty much what you told me, but I wasn't to sure. No more pulldowns for me :)
