You've got a welder/compressor?
That's definitely roughing it. My free work coffee is some Folgers crap
Yessir. A generator too bc we're always losing power. When hurricane Sandy hit, I was without power for 10days. When that freak October snow storm hit, I was out of power for another 10days. I have well water so no electricity means no drinking water, no shower water, no brushing teeth water, no flushing toilet water, and no cooking water. Life in the boonies has its ups and downs hahaha
As I'm sure I'm about to find out!
I'm about 15 minutes outside the suburbs.
I think I like you a little more now that I know you can compress and weld. <3
It's a nice unit but as you said, get the place first and see what's affordable and what's not. I'd say a welder is really not that high on the priority list unless you have serious plans to use it. Most people I know with welder a have used them only a handful of times.I just found an ESAB Migmaster 250 that has just been recently serviced for $500.
I FUCKING WANT IT. The ESAB MM250 is supposed to be one of the nicer welders out there.
OK I gotta stop looking at this stuff...
I just gotta get into this place to see how much I can afford to spend on toys.
It's the waiting game now, the house inspection is next Monday so I'm dead in the water until then.
I've been welding since I was maybe 18yo. I welded subframe connectors on my buddy's fox body '87 Mustang that had reworked bottom and top end, supercharged, with a 300 shot of nitrous. On a leaking head gasket and 2 misfiring cylinders the car still dynoed at 538RWHP!!! And my fathers a mechanic so I've worked on cars since I was 7, doing oil changes at first. I need a compressor to operate all the pneumatic tools I have hahaha.

Good deal brother.
I'm all self taught.
I bought a 1971 Chevy Chevelle that I just started ripping apart.
It needed body work so I taught myself to do that.
It needed frame/roll cage work so I taught myself how to do that.
It needed mechanical work so blah blah blah
It needed an engine so I did that too.
When I picked that car up I had never even done as much as an oil change.
I'm not most people
My current welder has been used an abused, it's a Hobart Handler 140ez. The biggest MIG welder you can run on 110v. I bought it for sheet metal work mostly and a little frame stuff. It did it's job for everything that I've asked it to do so far but I'm getting into welding up thicker material. Stuff like Dana 60 axle tubes and 1/4" bracketry. My little 140 is just barely adequate for welding up the axle tubes i'm running now. It's hard to get heat into something 1/2" thick with that thing.
I'm going to build a wild truck when I get this place.
1500lbs![]()
And likely 10x that in price.
I'd love to have a nice Miller machine but they're so damned expensive.
we have a Miller 210 here at work that I get to play with every so often.
It's niiice.
ESAB makes a Multi-Master that does Mig/TIG/Stick also.
I don't know anything about tig but it's on my short-list.
My dream would be to have a lift in the garage to make working in cars easier. It sucks balls using your spare tire jack to do an oil change on your back on the ground lol. Much rather be standing up underneath the car.
TIG is used a lot in aerospace applications and thin metal applications but it can vary.
Thing is, they're really not all that expensive.
A decent 4-post lift can be had for about $3000.
You'll bet your ass I'm going to have one installed in the garage I'll build.
It's the installation I'm worried about too. My moms cousin has one and he uses it to tinker with his cars. He spent a small fortune on it though.
I really want to learn to TIG stainless and aluminum.
I have no real reason to learn it other than I want the knowledge. lol
You're right.
You gotta have the right concrete for the base and a 12' ceiling.
There are a ton of designs out there, some better than others.
I'd still stay away from a 2-post lift though. Seem too many horror stories with those things.
