False Liver readings due to body building

Does anyone factor in high intensity weight training and the stress it puts on the body when getting blood work done in regards to liver values,, and how weight training can possibly give 'false positives' or elevate liver values when in fact it's nothing at all wrong with the liver itself ?? Its just the break down of muscle tissue from strenuous weight lifting.

""A 2008 study published in the "British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology" found that muscular exercise can cause high pathological liver function tests in healthy men. The enzymes AST and ALT were significantly increased for at least seven days after intensive weightlifting; other liver functions called LD, CKL and myoglobin also showed highly elevated levels. Physical exercise can result in elevated liver enzymes, especially AST, due to muscle breakdown""

There's a difference between slightly elevated AST/ALT and greatly elevated from hepatotoxic drugs. It's the kidneys (IME) that see more of the false positives than liver - but a good additional indicator would be bilirubin if unsure.

Very valid point though; I guess it would be best to look at things in context when looking at results. Am I on just test and have a top end AST/ALT? Could be exercise induced if there isn't anything else going on. Am I taking adrol and var with test and tren - seeing both in the triple digits? Probably the drugs. :)

thanks halfwit.. yeah I read this and I remembered back to the last and only time my liver values were slightly elevated. I was running deca and test, nothing hepa toxic. I thought maybe the arimidex was possibly an issue, but being it was slightly elevated and the doc had no concern guess it may have been from the 2 hour a day work outs.

something to keep in mind,, I'd imagine if you were working out hard while in a calorie deficit for a cut that the liver values may even be more elevated being your breaking down more muscle.

do you know if NAC only effects liver related breakdown of cells and production ALT and AST, or if it effects blood levels as a whole including break down of skeletal muscle ?

I remember before I touched AAS (still in my 20's) I was getting elevated liver values (within double digits) and the Dr sent me for an ultra sound of my liver and of course I was fine. I figured it was from taking advil or supps like creatine or if I had a few beers. Then in my 30s I had them again (still no AAS) and then when I was on AAS I was getting the same readings. So they were always slightly elevated and the same. Then I read about how muscle breakdown can cause the elevated numbers and the lightbuld went on

Well, circulating enzymes in the blood originate from the liver, so I'd have to say it would certainly help prevent them from getting to that point as glutathione is responsible (NAC's the precursor for glutathione) for liver regeneration and acts as an antioxidant. NAC is great stuff, but I do find it lacking for really heavy cycles with tren and an oral. That's when I bring in the liv52 and UDCA.

My .02c :)

Great question, I would like to hear about this as well. In the past if my liver values were elevated, it was because I was running an oral aas. Never had that problem using only injectables though.

I have never given much thought to what hard training day in and day out could have on the liver.
