First day of the 5x5, not to sure about it.

I did my first day of the 5x5 routine yesterday. Did my legs and shoulders. And for the first time in 3 weeks my legs arent sore at all the day after doing legs. So that makes me wonder how good this will work. But im gonna give it a little more time though.
 
Keep in mind that soreness (or pump for that matter) is not necessairly a good measure of the effectiveness of muscle stimulation. Go do 5 sets of 30 reps of fucking tricep kickbacks with the chrome weights. You will likely be pumped and will get sore but your arms will look like a girls. Also if you are new to training alot of this time is built developing the neural pathways to stimulate a large motor pool. That has to be learned as you get more efficient at doing the lift.

That is why you see these young guys that weigh 150 lbs or 11 stone or whateve the fuck it is doing 6 exercises for 5 sets each "to failure" right. They don't have the pathways yet to be able to lift with maximum intensity.

Give it time and learn the lift.

this is key. like Nate said, DOMS is no indication of how well you worked the muscle.

You don't get big in the gym. That happens in the kitchen and the bedroom. Or the cage if you sleep in one like Glubgawd. :D

exactly. i get so tired of the nonsense and I'll end up getting in trouble. The anabolic forum is like a bad soap opera. Occasionally a good commercial comes on.
 
im slowly noticing some soreness starting in my legs. i was just use to waking up sore from my old routine. and staying sore til friday.

heres my leg routine
squats 5x5, and the last rep of the last two sets was tough to get up with.but i got them:insane:
leg press 2x10
leg curl 2x10
lunges2x10
 
Legs usually dont get sore until 1.5 or 2 days after working them if heavy. If you are doing high rep stuff will get sore earlier.
 
duey, are you adding weight every work out or every week? When I did 5x5 last year I started light, like WTF light. But I added 5 lb / workout and before I knew it I was lifting heavy. When it got too heavy I switched to 5x3 & then when that got too heavy I switched to 3x5. My legs were sore. I was eating like a mofo & I was training 100% natural & managed to put on 10 lbs in 9 months.

Im only working each body part once a wk. So i am going to try and move up 5lb every week if i can.
