Getting these:
Cortisol

Folate

Comprehensive Metabolic panel (14)

CBC with Differential/Platelet

Luteinizing Hormone (LH)

Thyroid Function TSH, T3, T4

Estradiol

Progesterone

Lipid Panel with LDL/HDL Ratio

Testosterone, Free and Total

Prostate Specific Ag, Serum

igf-1 (Insulin Growth Factor 1)

Hepatic Panel

DHEA-S

Prolactin

Ferritin

SHBG

Do I need to be fasted for these? I assume so.... Like water only until they draw blood?

Thanks

The doc should have told you the answer. If all else fails, go to PrivateMDLabs.com and look it up as best you can. Here is what I see:

Lipid Panel With LDL:HDL Ratio Test Details
Includes: Cholesterol, LDL:HDL ratio; lipid profile, (includes triglycerides).
Patient Instructions: Patient should fast for 12-14 hours before collection of the specimen.

Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) Test Details
Includes: Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA), Serum
Patient Instructions: For accurate test results, no ejaculation during the 24 hours preceding the test.

I believe some of the other tests may require fasting (depending on which particular test they do) ... so it appears the answer is yes, you should fast ... but I am not a doctor. If all else fails, you will have fasted for no reason. I suppose that's better than not being able to do your blood tests.

Speaking from my own experience here...I fasted for 12 hours, and ended up fainting after they took 9 vials of blood for my test. After I came to, the tech/nurse told me I could have only fasted for 8 hours. I live for food every 3 hours...12 hours was just too much for me.

Yep, fasting is not that fun. I do the blood tests early in the morning (~7:00-7:30am) and bring food with me so I can eat when I'm done. I usually only fast about 10-11 hours. I finish up eating by like 8:00-8:30pm the night before and drink water from that point on. This seems to work. My blood glucose levels come back OK so it appears that 10-11 hours works well for the simple tests that I do. The tests the OP listed above are a bit more extensive that anything I have done. I would probably do a full 12 hours before a big panel like that.

Thanks everyone for the replies, I was fasted, They drew about 9 viles.... I was alittle nervous about getting dizzy but I did well LOL. I am used to eating at about 5am but had to wait till about 9:30 for the labs....

Thanks again!

Just dont eat breakfast if you are going in for a morning draw. Also no sex for 48 hours prior to drawing for sex hormones.

I am a few hours from nashville, I havent found a good local Doc yet... I have worked with Todd at IMT and am very happy so far...
