Conclusions
The recent demonstration that deficiencies of the main anabolic forces, including the somatotropic system, worsen the prognosis of CHF patients and the current evidence for a clinical benefit of GH replacement therapy should prompt larger, multicenter trials with a placebo-controlled design aimed at evaluating the clinical and prognostic advantage of the potentiation of the main anabolic axes, in particular of the GH/IGF-I system.
In conclusion, this study demonstrates that GH deficiency is a common finding in CHF and that GH replacement therapy improves quality of life, exercise performance, and LV architecture and function.
