I've been bulking for about 4 mos. now and have put on about 25lbs of mainly muscle. Haven't gained now for 1.5mos. Was wondering if i'm eating too clean? I mostly eat rolled oats, brown rice, wheat noodles, wheat bread/multi grain, lots of chicken, beef, venison, tuna, skim or 2% milk and of course fruits and veggies. SOme of the guys at the gym say i'm eating to clean.
Thanks for any advise.

I don't think it is possible to eat too clean but you may not be eating enough for your metabolism. Up the quantity but keep a quality diet.

As long as you are getting the amount of carbs, protien, and fats your body needs to grow it does'nt really matter how clean you eat. Even when I am bulking I try to eat healthy. Occasionally I will still have some icecream, or a big mac. Mainly just try to cut out fried foods or sugary foods as well as foods excessivley high in saturated fats.

I usually eat my rolled oats w/a protein shake, milk, and 3-5 whole eggs. Also have protein shake (30-40grams whey) w/2 whole eggs before and after my workouts. Will try adding some carbs after workout 2. Thought it was better to just have the whey right after your workout cuz adding carbs might slow the absorption of they whey in your system?? Also, have 16oz of apple juice before a workout. SOmetimes some other carbs 2, like spagetti. What all would u suggest for post workout meal other then pbj??

Heres my stats- 6ft 3in 235lbs about 8-9%bf
Stepped on the scale this am and have lost about 5lbs since last week. Haven't changed my workout, just had to work longer hrs at work, so havent gotten to eat as often as i like. So instead of 6 or 7 meals, its more like 4, or 5 on a good day. Strength is still up though, so at least i can't be loosing much muscle.

I like to have some juice(grape, orange) right after a workout and then follow up with a 50 gram protien shake. All this of course within 30 min after the workout. Then an hour after that your body is ready for a whole food meal like chicken or beef with some potatoes, rice or cereal.
As for the carbs slowing the absorption of the protien. You need the carbs post workout to replenish its energy stores quickly so then it can concentrate on processing the protien and using it for repairing your muscle.

You need to slowly increase your calories when you are bulking. As your weight increases your calorie/protein requirements increase as well.

Eating carbs after your workout are critical for recovery. I eat about 30grams of protein and 60 grams of carbs. Its really the only time of day you want to consume sugars or other high glycemic carbs.

Are you adding raw eggs to your shakes?

Yes, I am adding raw eggs to my shakes. Seems to be working well. Gives me extra calories, protein, and essential fatty acids. I've been having trouble increasing my calories when I have to work extra hours cuz I can't fit in as many meals as I like (6-7), therefore i'm forced to eat fewer larger meals and theres only so much food I can consume in a sitting. I'll try upping the calories again, cuz obviously I must not be taking in enough. Went up on dls again today, so my strength is still increasing at least. Have also been drinking about a gallon of skim milk a day. Thought about switching to 2% or whole, but don't wanna add 2 much extra fat to my diet. Trying to do a clean bulk. What do u think?? How many grams of carbs do u usually try and take in when u're bulking (per lb. of body weight)?? Not sure, but I might be a bit low on the carbs.
