how important in protein shake?

i know that many people say they are really important. i am a hardgainer trying to gain weight so it might be even more important, i don't know?

is it enough to get my protein from the food i eat everyday? such as chicken or eggs, or should a protein shake be taken everyday?

i am 5'7 147lbs.

my main prob is i can't stand the taste of that shit. the weighgainer protein i have says i shuold be taken 4 scoops and 500ml of water, while my friends only says he should be taking 2 smaller scoops and 125ml of water.

so i dunno lol
 
protein shakes only become a convience when you cant get whole food in. and aside from post workout, this being an essential time to get in some whey protein and dextrose as both are easily digested resulting in a quick nutrient uptake. aside from that if you can get adequate amounts of daily protein consumption from food alone, then by all means lay it to you!
 
i find the shakes a necessity. especially when eating 400 grams a day on my training day and 350 on my off days. its actually more cost efficiant as well when you think about it.
 
They are only important as far as how much protein you are taking in each day. The reason almost everyone takes protein shakes is just the fact that it is difficult to ingest enough protein from food alone. At your weight, you should be taking in 200g-250g a day at least.
