From what I've heard around the campfire the expiration date is a guaranteed date of effectiveness when stored properly. If it has been exposed to heat then you might have some decrease in effectiveness. Many meds are good for years after the expiration date.

I’m sure it’s not bad as in, any more detrimental to your health.

But like he said, it may not be quite as effective. Think of it more as a “best before” date.
