I'm a newbie at this high protein, high calorie diet. Just started a week ago with about 4,200 calories and 300 grams protein a day.

My stats: 5'11" 175 lbs. 13%bf

I'm curious, how in the hell do you vets get the food down......I'm doing it, but it makes me feel like crap for 2+ hours, and by that time, its time to eat again, or drink a shake. How long will it take for my body to adjust to the diet? Are my meals too close together (they range from 2hrs to 3 hrs apart)? Any advice? And how long should I take to eat a meal? Should I finish it in 10 min? or take 30?

Thanks

i usually ingest weight gainers to reduce my food intake...a couple gainer shakes a day can greatly reduce the caloric intake, thus less food to ingest, as well as protein.

As eating goes, eat at a good steady pace....allow your stomach to stretch over couple weeks, and u will be able to eat tons of food no prob! haha...

Is that advisable for someone just starting out? Weight gainer shakes and protein shakes? I dont want to over do the diet, and I also dont want to waste my time with something thats not going to work........

Thanks for all of the info.....

weight gainers and protein shakes are pretty much a great starting out supplement as most people cant keep a proper diet to start with (schedules conflicting meals, etc...) and protein shakes are a great way to get some easy protein in ur system. Weight gainers are awesome to get the calories easily too...IMO, protein and gainers are the best for starting out.

Plus if u ask anyone here, they all will say that protein shakes are the best supplement to buy.

When I am trying to gain I eat every 3-4 hrs. I mean if you don't eat within 3 hrs, your not going to disapear.

Also in the offseason I make my shakes with 2 scoops of protein powder and 2 cups of whole milk.

Here's how I eat in the offseason:

Meal 1: 10:00 a.m.
Protein shake, 2 scoops of powder w/ 2 cups of whole milk
bowl of grits with cheese

Meal 2: 1:30 p.m.
Chicken Teja's from Tony Roma's
(Grilled chicken breasts w/ jack cheese, roasted poblano peppers and diced tomatoes. Corn and ranch style beans come with it)

Meal 3: 5:00 p.m.
Marinated grilled chicken also from Tony Roma's
(teriyaki chicken with rice and vegatables)

I order both meals to go at the same time every day. I heat the other one up later.

7:00 workout

Meal 4: 8:30
Steak and potatoes (baked potato or french fries, hey its gaining time right?)

Meal 5: 11:30
Protein shake w/ water and 1 packet of oatmeal blended together.

Timing is not important in the offseason to how long it should take to eat a meal. It usually takes me 15 min. per meal. Offseason is about gaining muscle and most importantly ENJOYING yourself. When gaining that is the only time your building muscle. You don't build muscle while dieting, your just striping off fat to show what you have built. So in the offseason don't worry to much about eating to clean.

In between meals if I want a coke or some juice I drink it. Sometimes a Snickers bar 1hr before you workout is one of the best damn preworkout meals you can eat. One of Chad Nicholl's apprentices taught me that, sshh!!

That above is about 250 grams of protein a day. I am 220 so that is perfect for me. That type of protein should make alomost anyone gain. I don't think a person needs to take TO much protein. Your body can only process so much. Ronnie Coleman at 300 lbs doesn't really take in more than 300-350 grams of protein.

Building muscle is about consistency. If you can't be consistent you won't gain. Right now your already having problems. Your feeling bloated, your worried about eating every 2-3 hrs. Don't be like that. You'll quit in 2 weeks and try and change to something else. Thats not consistency. Find something that you enjoy doing and that doesn't make you watch the clock every 2 hrs. You'll do a lot better at this thing if you do that.

Thats a real good answer beef. Lots of good info there. You must be from the south. "bowl of grits with cheese" hahaha. I make my shakes somewhat like you. I use 10oz of 1% milk and 2 scoops of powder with 23g per scoop. So you figure 10g from milk and 46g from protien. 56g and I have one when I get home at 5pm and another before bed. Eating a high protien meal or a shake before bed is another way to add quality pounds. Just stay away from carbs before bed!

I guess the real prob I have is that I just started trying to gain again, but not using weight gainer like I did 3 years ago. Im having trouble getting that much food to go down, and still feel like working all day and bustin ass in the gym. I'll go get some weight gainer. Is it alright for me to take 2 weight gainer shakes AND 2 protein shakes a day? Or do you put them together in the same shake?

I really appreciate all of this advice. Only wish this board was around in 1999! Would have helped alot. Thanks alot for all the help.
