Hi all,

Basically i am at the stage where i need to up my caloric intake in order to gain weight, done 4 cycles in the past all very successful. I am running sustanon/dbol and finding it alot harder to put on weight. I am drinking mass gainer shakes (protein + carbs) and adding extra pure carbs in there for more calories. I am having 5 a day. Usually after ive finished eating meals. Is it bad if i skip 1 or 2 meals because im so full from the shakes from 2 hours ago ? And in turn just having another shake ? Thanks in advance

***Also, the title of the thread was meant to can I replace SOME meals, not most***

I stay away from shakes all together. I prefer food over them. They're good for after a workout but I wouldn't drink them all day long.

When I was "bulking" and I found it hard to cook my food or go get something to eat, I would make myself a shake so I could get in the quick calories. I would throw in 2 scoops of whey protein, cup of oatmeal, two scoops of peanut butter, almond milk 2 cups, and a bannana...that's almost a quick one thousand calories. I never really bought weight gainers..and just made me shakes with a lot of calorie senses foods. Taste pretty good too!!

Dude, Thats an awesome idea ! Do you mix it with just the almond milk ? Also, by 2 scoops of peanut butter, how much is that exactly ? This is exactly what i was after, thanks bro !

Yeah true, thing is beforehand i was just trying to eat food, having 1 or 2 shakes during the day with an egg in it. But i got so over eating the same meats and bulking food at work, it was a mission just to eat.

2 scoop peanut butter..2tbsp...about 60 grams if you are being precise and count your macros lol. As for the almond milk about 12 ounces and another 6 ounces with water and ice. Just depends on how thick you want your shake. I personally don't like it super thick so I add more almond milk and water.

It's not a bad thing to replace meals with shakes, BUT you still need 3 solid meals a day in order to keep your digestive system healthy.

There is no way when im bulking I can comfortably eat the cals i need. Shakes are great to make up the difference. I have no problem with doing it at all.

Balance should be practiced. Real food is by far the most important component of a bodybuilding diet. There are alot of nutrients that real food contains that you would be doing yourself a disservice by limiting the amount of real food that you are eating as real food has what is called a "thermic effect" which is the impact that real food has in your metabolism. Real food needs digestion, your body burns more calories in processing it as opposed to shakes which are already pre-digested.

What protein shakes do offer the bodybuilders is a convenient way to ingest your protein, thus allowing you to have your five to six meals every day without having to ingest real food in all of them and many of these shakes introduce amino acids into your bodybuilding diet, thus making your diet more complete. So in short; learn to balance these two concepts and you will do just fine.

Yes, to replace MOST meals with shakes isnt good, you are robbing yourself of the benefits if whole food. Now replacing some meals or adding shakes in top of meals to get some extra protein and calories in is ok. I actually dont even drink shakes at all anymore except for the odd one in the morning. Not even PWO, its whole foods all the way. Nothing will ever replace or compare to whole foods.

Also my take on it.
