Kidney protection......??

So we hear about supplements to keep our liver clean and protected. But what about protecting our Kidneys?? We dont talk to much about that. Is a good amount of H2O enough? I personally only take cranberry extract daily. What are some other supplements you guys take to aid in that area?

MBB clued me in on a few things a while back that may help a little bit. But as far as I know their is no equivalent to NAC for the liver when it comes to the kidneys.

Ubiquinol
R-Lipoic Acid
Silymarin

I wish there was an equivalent to NAC for the kidneys. I have microalbuminuria, which requires I take lisinopril. I've tried the ones Mega listed and didn't see much of a difference on my blood test. :(

Where's Austinite when you need him? :p

Interesting, ya I was just wonder for a guy running Trenwould benefit from anything. Or just for kidney health in general. I would assume though that adequate water I take would keep them flushed pretty good.

There's a product I used to help me clear up interstitial nephritis from too many meds. It's called Canephron. You can buy it online, mostly from Germany, or from Baltic countries. It worked well for me.

I think it's probably on amazon as well.

Interesting, I actually went to the webpage of the company who makes this product and they have some other products that might be of us to some individuals. Respiratory and sleep products. I even see a few products to help ease the struggles of PMS, this or course would provide a huge benefit for the fuys who like to run oral only AAS cycle ;)

Ya water intake is key. Even on Tren my kindeys AND liver stay healthy. I attribute a lot of me being healthy to a healthy intake of H2O. And MAN of course the smoothies are helping c'mon, smoothies are the key to health. Speaking of which I whipped a pretty good one up today........

250ml egg whites
250ml milk (2% because there is no other milk fit to drink)
1 banana
1 mango
1 cup peach yogurt
some dried coconut
1 scoop vanilla isolate

Some ice, blend and enjoy.

I had 1 cup cooked oatmeal as well if your thinking I left out my complex carbs :)

Yeah...when I was diagnosed with interstitial nephritis, it was wicked. I'd wake up every morning wanting to puke with pain in my lower back / kidney area. My GFR rate was 59, and the doc said it was borderline stage 3 kidney disease. So I stopped the HRT injections and all other meds. Found out it was a sulfa allergy though that caused it, some antibiotics just don't agree with me lol. When my kidneys weren't functioning well, I couldn't even take fish oil due to the wanting to puke feeling. Canephron helped a lot though, it took the nausea away and now my GFR is between 83 - 91 due to time healing the rest. So, I would advise...always get your GFR and creatinine tested when you get routine bloodwork if you run a lot of supplements and whatever else, it could save you some troubles down the road.

I don't know much about renal protective meds other than, as halfwit mentioned, ACE inhibitors/ARBs. There are a some things to avoid though, like NSAIDs which be real rough on some people's kidneys.

Just to mention too. The lab work we get to estimate kidney function, SCr, BUN, etc. Is generally a measure of how much breakdown is happening in the body and how well the kidneys are clearing it. So, if you just got done working out and go get blood work done your readings are going to be high. Big muscular people are going to have more creatinine in their blood period. Not saying to ignore them just trying to give a little perspective.

My doctor at Texan Urgent Care suggested me to have vegetables and fruits such as cabbage , cauliflower, garlic, onions, cranberries and blueberries when I had a kidney problem.

Sounds like a good recommendation even if your kidneys are working perfectly. :-)
