Maltodextrins complex or simple?

HELP! I hear from one guy that maltodextrins are just another type of complex carb and from another guy they are "simple". Whats the real truth?
 
Maltodextrin is a complex carbohydrate derived from starch. It is released slowly into the bloodstream. This keeps energy levels high for your entire workout without the extra amounts being stored as fat.
 
So if it does release a lot of insulin,can i take it after my workouts? Or would dextrose still be the best choice?
