I've been getting up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. I figured I might as well have a protein shake while I do this so my muscles are not starving all night.

Here's the thing though: when I drink the protein shake (3 scoops) afterwards I have very intense dreams. It's almost like nightmares. This doesn't happen if I don't have a middle of the night protien snack.

1) I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

2) What causes this? I mean yes I know its the protein but how?

I remember reading that everyone dreams but when you wake up you can't remember them (for the most part). So what I think is happening is that I always have these weird dreams but the protein intake somehow allows me to remember them better. :dunno:

Last night for example, after taking in the protein shake at around 3am the rest of the night I didn't know if I was asleep or awake or both. Or maybe I was just dreaming that I was awake but I really was asleep. It's really weird shit.

That's because you have an insulin rush while you are sleeping--want nightmares eat a big bowl of ice cream with chocolate sauce right before bed--your heart will race from all of the sugar and at the same time you are sleeping. It is almost the same as someone who gets drunk from fruity rum drinks--those people are the most likely to get in fights or act completely wacky.

I mix the protein with water, I didn't know that protein can spike insulin. Should I cut back to only one scoop? I take in 5g of fish oil with the shake as well to slow down the absorption.

I guess the insulin affects people differently. Sometimes to stop the cravings I eat at night to but I never dream. Well I'm sure I dream i just never remember them.

I agree with not needing the shake but I have to disagree with response to insulin.

That is a sure fire way to reduce Growth hormone - Hence the reason never to take your HGH around times your eating carbohydrates.

dirk...i came across a thread a while ago and where one of the typical gurus (you, trop, skip, or somebody) mentioned that the catabolism that can occur overnight is actually a positive thing. Any more info on this?
