hey there.. i was drinking 1 litre milk (Nestle skimmed milk) daily but mannn what is milk doing ot my tummy.... i m having lose motions..

the normal unskimmedmilk from the dairy farm is fine with me if i take half litre a day but with this boxed nestle skimmed milk , i m spending more time in the loo than in the gym..

byeee

is too much milk bad??
how much should one drink?

I only drink whole milk, skim milk has no taste and it gives me gas. When I am bulking I drink a gallon of whole milk a day. When I am not bulking I eliminate milk in my diet.

cant remember where i heard this but, indians tend to have problems digesting milk try and search on google

come on mate.. i dont believe that..

i will do a yahoo search but intestine of an american ,bosnian and indian is same and the chemical reactions that take place is the same.. atleast in school,my bilogoy book when teachign human anatomy never pointed out whether it was talking abt an american anatomy or a russian,it just said a human body :) ...

yeh may be the weather has a small role to play but it cant be that people of one particualr country have prob in digesting milk :)

sitll i will check

I have read this somewhere that ethnicity does often have something to do with your digestive system and the level of enzymes in your digestive tract. People of Mediterranian or Semitic decent very often have lactose intolerance, Indians are used to consuming their milk in the form of yogurt or cheese so milk and the milk sugars do not work well with their digestive system. They also may have certain foods in their diet that do not react well with milk.

doesn't specifically mention Indians...but minorities and milk digestion

That's kind of interesting. Why would the skim milk give you gas, but the whole milk not?

I might have to give this a try because (skim) milk+too much protein=deathly gas for me, or so it seems.

Guys isn't this a case of lactose intolerance? U need to have been exposed to a high milk diet as a child in order to deal with continued milk intake through the years. Plus, I understand that what happens is that for some people, any break in continuity in the use of milk products means you lose the ability to process milk.

So it's one of those things have to be built up from young and then kept throughout life. Nothing to do with ethnicity - except maybe that some ethnic groups traditionally have less milk in their diets.

I get unreal stomache cramps from skim milk. I can only drink whole.

It was suggested to me that the higher fat content of the whole milk acts as sort of a buffer by slowing down the digestive process and that THAT was the reason for the difference.

bow-wow i think your post is bang on target

i m having a pretty high amount of milk right now and this indigestion problem is over..its working fine these days.. :)

thnx guyz

For the caucasians in the house:

http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/abstract/28/6/595

Looks like volume consumed as a small child is important (according to this study).

And here is an interesting read on ethnicity:

http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/content/full/114/5/1372

Tripz, human biology is vastly different from ethnic group to ethnic group. Certain ethnic groups in asia do not produce the enzyme neccesary to metabolize alcohol:

I doubt huskguy ment offence, I think he was wrong here... but so are you in saying ethnicity shuold be discounted.
