need 5x5,routine suggestions

duey

awesome!!
im gonna try the 5x5 routine with back and legs. im gonna do deads and squats with the 5x5. what would u guys suggest for the other 2x10 sets for the others on legs and back.

thinking something like this, let know if you guys think i should switch the lifts for different ones.
5x5 deads
2x10 pullups or as many as i can do intil i get 10
2x10 barbell rows

5x5 squats
2x10 leg presses
2x10 leg curls for hams

will a person get more size or strength out of this. is this really enough for your legs and back or do i need to add another exercise.

If you put all your effort into each set then any routine will work if it isn't complete shit, as well as progressive overload.

Intensity + Progressive Overload = win.

O, ya don't forget your diet.

And that is why i am looking for the best combination of the 5x5 for what i want to do. So it is not complete shit.

Bill Star has a good 5x5, also there is a sticky on 5x5 on the top of this section of the forum.

yes i know, i was more wondering what exercises people thought would be better to use in those workouts. i didnt see to much of that mentioned in the sticky. but ill check it out again. thanks

for example
squats 5x5 and or
leg presses 2x10
leg curls 2x10
or would it be better to use leg extensions in the 2x10's

Personally any time I've done 5x5 I have stuck to compound movements only, if you are looking for some added volume I've added some sets of 20 with very short rest peroids at the end to get a better pump and stretch out the muscle a little more. Here are some of my favorite core moves for 5x5.

Military press, clean and press, floor press, incline press, squat (all variations especially zercher), dead lift (snatch grip preferably), pullups, dips, bb row, t-bar row.

Mike Mahler has a pretty good ebook that you can find for a free download on a few sites that discusses his version of a 5x5, using decreasing rest between days to increase the intensity, I worked up to doing a 5x5 routine 6 days a week, but that was only for 2 weeks then deload and restart at a lower volume cycle again.

hatefulONE is dead on.

Read everything in this link:
Bill Starr 5x5 - Madcow Intermediate or Linear Version

Don't be tempted to add in a 4th day either....you won't be able to last long.

Forgot to mention - I do mine slightly differently than that link. I use the first 2 sets as warmup and then do 3x5 at heavy weight (same weight each set). I increase the weight when I can do all 3x5. So for example, your monday squats could look like this:

1x5x 50% max
1x5x 60-65% max
3x5x 80-85% max
